HELP, Sciatica pain so bad I can't walk!

I have pain shooting down from my lower back, down my left buttock and leg.  It is so bad I can barely put any weight on my left side.  I will call my doc first thing in the morning to see if there is anything I can do.  In the meantime I wanted to know if any of you has had this and what helped.  I have been in tears for two days now, this is just awful!!!

  • Unfortunately, I never found anything that helped. I would be sobbing when I had to pee, since it meant I had to try to move. Take advantage of whatever your doc offers you - if there are any pain relievers that are safe to try, I would take them. Sorry you're suffering. I know that was a bad time for me.

I hated peeing as well because of the pain to move!

I had it very bad as well.  Physical therapy worked but you have to go a few times a week and do the exercises they tell you at home.  Also, luke warm baths and being iin the pool helped a lot.  Good luck!

  • I have it too. I'm afraid how much worse its going to get since I'm not even that far along yet. I saw a neuromuscular specialist for a pre-pg injury and have seen him for the sciatica pain recently. He believes it may be caused from sleeping primarily on my left side. He suggested I put pillows under the left side, so I'm laying on my back but tilted to the left..kwim? I have also found it helps to put a heating pad under the hip for about 10-15 minutes before I get out of bed. Hope you find some relief soon!

  • The baby must be in a bad place.....maybe trying to encourage it to move a little bit?  I find my sciatica comes and goes as baby B changes positions.  Definately speak to your doctor.

  • I have the same problem. You're going to have to enlist your husband's help to fix you. I lay on my stomach (somehow...i figure out how to be comfortable for five minutes, maybe with pillows), and he puts his elbow into the nerve on my butt/hip. There's that one spot that all of the pain starts from. He has to push really hard and twist his elbow around for a couple of minutes, taking a 30 second break every 30seconds. . This hurts me so badly that I cry sometimes, and it'll cause a bruise. BUT, I have relief for the next few days. I can walk and not worry about falling down.  Try it. I hope it helps you.
  • I also had that with my first child.   It was horrible, I feel for you!   I was able to get accupuncture done which helped for some mild relief but it was never back to normal.    I ended up being induced because of it 1 week early and within a couple of days was back to normal again.

I did do some heating pads and also some of those therma care heating pads that you buy for back pain which were great when I did have to go out.

    Good luck
