Newborn/starter stash critique please

I've been lurking and trying to learn!  This is our first child.  Grandparents are a half hour and 1.5 hours away.  We tend to make long "day trips" to see our families.  I will be a SAHM.  I would prefer NOT to have to wash every other day, but don't have a problem if we don't make it that long.

Please give me your thoughts.  Feel free to make some suggestions to my "planning to buy" list if you feel something else would work better for us.

I'm thinking I might want a few more AIO/pockets for the day trips.  WDYT?

 

ALREADY BOUGHT:

6 KL0 fitteds

4 thirsties fab fitteds, XS

2 BG AIO, XS

 

PLANNING TO BUY:

24 orange edge GMD prefolds

24 yellow edge GMD prefolds

3 thirsties Duos, Size 1

2 bummis super bright, newborn

2 thirsties covers, XS

3 pack snappies

2 diaper pail liners (planetwise or wahmies?? depending on availablity)

1 large monkeyfoot wet bag

You might want to add a medium or small wet bag for your diaper bag for short trips out and about.

I have a couple day trip size whamies that I always use.Never know when something super messy will happen and it easy to shove diapers, a whole outfit and baby blanket if needed in it.

Thanks!  I forgot to add that I will be making my own cloth wipes.  Probably 4 or 5 dozen?  They are cheap and easy to make so too many isn't a real issue with me.

We have 36 pre-folds and 7 covers and only sometimes make it to every third day for wash; it's usually every other day. We don't use any fitteds or AIOs though, so those may tide you over. I would get more covers... with newborn poop, you could potentially go through four in a day (it would be a bad day, but not unheard of). We sometimes have to wash early because we run out of covers. One other thing I didn't anticipate with the pre-folds is how much newborn babies pee and how you have to change them more frequently than disposable diapers, especially the small ones. You'll love cloth diapering though; it's wonderful! GL!

I am living proof that this is true! haha Especially until you get the hang of folding the diapers, you could potentially go through all of your covers in one day! I just hand washed a couple today to get me til tomorrow! haha

Wow I am the opposite with covers! From our experience you have plenty of covers (we were using just a couple that fit the first week or two).  Everyone told me that we'd go through about 12 diapers a day at first, but we went through WAY more than that, so keep that in mind. I like prefolds b/c they are slim, but once they get wet, they are SOAKED (maybe mine is even more noticeable b/c he's in preemie size prefolds so they're tiny and thin) whereas I find with my KL0s, etc even if he does pee in them he's not sitting in soaking wet all over his bum and belly.

This is totally a personal preference, but we love the BG bamboo fitteds.  They are much trimmer than KL0s, fit DS very well, and are super absorbent.
