Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Self-weaning @ 14-15 months

I have been letting DD self wean and we were down to just an am feeding for awhile.  The past three days, she didn't even ask for that, so I thought it was "that time".  Then this am she asked for milk.  Anyone's LO not go "cold turkey" when they self-weaned? Just wondering if this was a fluke or normal.

Re: Self-weaning @ 14-15 months

  • We are in the same boat. DD is 15 months today and for the last month or so, she has slowly dropped her two daytime nursing sessions. So we only do morning and bedtime. But there have been a few days where she wants to nurse before her naps. I usually let her because it's just a comfort thing-a few sucks and she's content.

But now my supply is starting to settle a little (I have always had an oversupply), so I don't really want to amp it up again by having her nurse during the day if she is truly weaning. So unless she really puts up a fight for it, I think I am going to stop the daytime nursing sessions all together. Does that reasoning make sense?  As you can see, I have no idea what I am doing...GL!

  • and p.s. Your sig picture is GORGEOUS! What a beautiful family!
  • My DD self-weaned at 19 months and she followed the same pattern...wouldn't nurse for a few days, then asked for it.  It's been a couple weeks now since she last nursed and though she made the sign for it the other day, it was sort of half-heartedly and she was very easily distracted to something else.  I think we are done.  Kind of sad, but sort of relieved that it happened so easily, especially since I'm pregnant and didn't want to nurse her for that much longer.
  • I finished weaning about 3 weeks ago because. Same situation. It was sad although she still pulls at the top of my shirt and says milk & this this then i give her a sippy of milk
