For those with Lactose/ Dairy free babies.....

Give me some meal ideas please. I am running out of creative ideas and all the ones I see on here I want to try have cheese in them. TIA

  • Some of our staples:

    black beans, waffles, pulled pork, chicken (cook ahead of time, cut in small cubes and freeze then unthaw as needed), green beans, grapes, bananas (cut in thirds), blueberries, morningstar chicken nuggets, cereal, graham crackers, pasta, sweet potato "fries" (cut sweet potatoes with a little EVOO and baked).?

  • Zachary is allergic to milk & peanuts.  Here are a few of his favorite meals:

    Pasta w/ marinara or meat sauce
    Vegetable pizza made with a bean-tomato sauce and roasted veggies
    Baked chicken w/ rice & veggies
    Hamburgers
    Sloppy joes
    Chicken parm (I just omit the cheese)
    Stir fry
    Omlettes
    Apple muffins
    Waffles (I buy frozen flax seed or buckwheat waffles that aren't made with milk)
    Soy yogurt (Whole Soy Co.)
    Beef stew
    Chicken soup
    Tacos
    Soynut butter & jelly sandwiches made with Arnolds Sandwich Thins

    I keep Benecol on hand as a butter substitute to cook with because it does not contain milk products.  A lot of recipes can be altered to omit milk products very easily!

    I also recommend "Sofie-Safe Cooking" - a cookbook full of milk, egg, wheat, soy, peanut, tree nut and shellfish free recipes.

  • Also, if your grocery store carries vegan cheese you can substitute that in a lot of recipes.  We made Zachary vegan mac & cheese and he loved it!  You just have to find a brand that melts well. 
  • I have the same problem, and DD is a very picky eater on top of it so she eats the same things ALL the time. 

    Breakfast is either oatmeal with wheat germ or Van's blueberry waffles (she'll only eat 1/2 of one on a good day) and a piece of fruit (usually a plum or strawberries).  Once or twice a week she gets a scrambled egg too.

    Lunch is almost always PB&J and maybe some raisins.  Once in a while I'll give her an egg salad sandwich instead with some peas mashed up in it.

    Dinner is the toughest one.  My husband is lactose intolerant, so I've been trying to make dairy-free family meals and just give the baby a bit of it (often she doesn't eat much of it, but what can I do?  She's uber-picky).  So far I've got:

    1. Spaghetti & home-made meatballs (ground pork & beef, minced garlic, eggs, some bread soaked in water (instead of milk), fresh parsley, S&P, and panko crumbs, browned in a little EVOO & cooked the rest of the way in the spaghetti sauce)

    2. Store-bought pizza dough spread with hummus, diced eggplant sauteed in garlic & EVOO and sliced kalamata olives.  Bake in oven like regular pizza.

    3. Stir-fry veggies & pork or chicken over rice

    I have a few more but I don't wanna take up any more space.  You can PM me if you want the rest.  On a hectic day, I give her a baked Weaver chicken tender & microwave some frozen broccoli or steam some diced carrots. 

    I swear, she'd be perfectly happy to live on Cheerios, plums and eggs.  I have a really hard time getting her to eat veggies.  She refuses to be "fed", so I can't give her purees & she often will just chew & spit out any veggies I give her :-(

  • Also, I made a Rachel Ray recipe called Pizzaiola Ragu (I found it on her talk show's website, not the food network), and DD loved it & it was so easy.  It's basically spaghetti & meat sauce but it's really simple.

  • FYI Kroger sells veggie cheese that is lactose free. I use it in my cooking for dd
  • I don't think babies like a ton of variety, at least mine doesn't... he eats peas, chicken, hummus, whole grain bagels, carrots, sweet potatoes, peanut butter, pasta, green beans, black beans, lima beans, chick peas, mushrooms, bananas, raisins, grapes, apples, peaches, pears, plums, squash, an occasional chicken nugget, sometimes a burger  or other red meat. He would be happy with peas and carrots and a bagel with peanut butter!
