Success after IF

If you/someone you love had mono...

...what was the progression?  When did you/they start to feel better?.  It'll have been 3 weeks on Sunday since DH got sick and the dr. said it takes a month to start feeling better, so is it reasonable to expect that by next weekend he'll be on the mend?  So far he has seen no improvement...if anything the fatigue has gotten worse (I'm sure being less active only exacerbates this).  He told me when I was home at noon that he got winded just changing Cal's clothes!

Re: If you/someone you love had mono...

  • I had mono in my 2nd year of college and had to withdraw from the semester. I got it at the end of Sept and was FINALLY better by Christmas. It took forever.?

I hope your DH feels better soon. Mono sucks - but at least you know what it is now. ?

  • Might not be the best data point, but I had it when I was little, maybe 9 or 10. To be honest, it didn't feel all that bad to me and I don't remember feeling that awful. I was only diagnosed because my lymph nodes were so swollen it looked like I had a goiter, so my dad brought me to urgent care and they said I had mono. I just remember hanging out at home and watching TV for a week and then going back to normal. I'm guessing I must have not had a very severe case though.

  • I was a Sr in high school. It was so awful. I tried going to school after about 3-4 weeks but never made it through the day. It was December and I didn't feel better until Spring. March I think. I was so sad because I couldn't compete with my cheer team my lasr year :( Hope he feels better soon
  • From what I've read, it can vary so much from person to person. DH came around fairly quickly. I'd say he was only really down and out for about three weeks before going back to work and resuming normal activities (though he did take it easy, didn't go back to the gym right away, went to bed earlier). All of this happened in late June and now he seems fine, though I think it can take awhile for the virus to completely go away.

  • I had it while I was in high school and it took me about 3 months before I felt mostly recovered.  For at least a month or two it was all I could do to get through a day at school ... I would come home and basically go straight to bed.  I had to drop out of volleyball tryouts because I had absolutely no energy.  I was a little anemic also so rest and iron supplements were all I could do to get over it.  I think everyone is different but be patient that it might take a few months for him to feel back to normal.
