Or are you aspiring professional photographers? Or were you "normal," got the camera, and then got interested in photography?
I want one, but I just want it for taking nice pictures. No crazy editing. Is it worth it for a novice who doesn't want to know the ins and outs of photography?

Re: DSLR owners...are any of you just "normal" photographers?
YES! ?WORTH IT! ?I have no professional aspirations, but I love love love taking high quality pictures of DS. ?I haven't even read my owner's manual because I'm not into all the special features- and it's definitely easy enough to just point, shoot, and get great images.
ETA: I have the Nikon D60 and highly recommend it!?
(read it. you know you want to.)

I just got one and I am a normal person. I am not aspiring to be a photog nor I plan on doing much besides taking regular old pics. We got ours for free with DH's bonus program for work where they get points towards gifts though. I am not sure we would have shelled out the cash if we had to pay for it. Maybe further down the road.

LOL.. I'm similarly obsessed
I was "normal" though I did do some semi-professional photography back in the days before digital (yes, I'm that old!). Now that I've reignited my love, I do have some aspirations to get paid for photography - mostly to recoup som of my investment, photography is an expensive hobby!
I went to school for Photography back before the Digital Boom...and have been pro in some way, shape or form since...
but I have recommended DSLR's to family members (who have children) and they all LOVE them. None of them are by any means anywhere near professional, but it has really improved the quality of their photos.
yes very worth it. I am very normal photographer mom... I have the Nikon
D40 and love it - super user friendly.
