***Natural Childbirth Check-In!!***

Sorry this is so early (and that I completely spaced and forgot to post last week!!). ?My mat leave starts mid-October... until then... early to bed and (way too) early to rise!
?
?
This is a check-in for women who are planning to have, or have already had, a natural, unmedicated, childbirth experience. ?We support each other, share our experiences, and maintain an enthusiastic and optimistic approach to pregnancy and birth.

Because this is the SAIF board, we have all dealt with the stress, doubt, pain, and sorrow of infertility. ?If you want to feel reconnected with your body and have realized that, although the conception of our children may have been a medical experience, their births can be intimate, beautiful, natural, and free from unnecessary medical intervention, please feel free to join us! ?Ultimately, the goal of any pregnancy is a healthy baby and a healthy mom. ?We are supportive of all women and how they choose (or need) to birth. ?This is simply a forum to discuss and support the choice to birth without drugs and unnecessary medical procedures.

Check-ins are on Fridays! ?If you want your name to be added, please reply to the post with your bump name, EDD or the date you delivered, and whether you plan to have your baby (or had your baby) at home, in a birthing center, or in a hospital.

With Katen, I knew I wanted to go as long as possible without the epidural, so I read the Bradley book and practiced the techniques. I liked that it gave you ways to relax and work with your body as opposed to against it. In the end, it worked so well that labor was really fast and there wasn't enough pain until the end to need an epidural.

With this pregnancy, I read the Hypnobirthing book and like it even better! It encompases the Bradley way and adds a few other techniques to relax and distract yourself. I like being able to pick what works for me from several options.

Favorite TV show?   Hmmm I'm not sure. I'm not really in the loop with regard to what's even on since having kids.  lol! If I get to sit down, I just flip through the channels and catch up on whatever I find.  :)

  • QOTW:  Quite simply because I knew that going natural with little to no intervention was the safest way to have a baby.  No more than that.  Having the baby at home was a decision based on the fact that I thought it would be near impossible to have the birth I wanted in a hospital and having it in the birth center was identical (safety-wise) to a home birth but I didn't have to drive anywhere and I would be most comfortable in my own surroundings.

Favorite show?  Golden Girls will always be my fav!!!!

It just seemed like the natural thing to do:  the way it should be done (if possible).  My SIL was an inspiration to me.  I'd heard good things about midwives with regard to how they allow you to be more "in charge" during childbirth than an OB would.  That sold me, for sure.

You know, I really wish that I had made different choices.  I am attempting to do this in a hospital with an OB and that means asking "permission" for every little thing that would normally be part of a birth at a birthing center.  The classes were a good choice (ALACE) and all the reading has been beneficial, but I didn't have any idea what I really wanted when I chose my doctor and my hospital.

I really want my birth experience to be as intervention free as possible and I think it might be a challenge at the hospital.  The intervention free birth appeals to me because outcomes are better for mom and baby if you don't start down the path of interventions.  Plus, I really believe that I can do this

And I love my doula.  I have a feeling she will be my saving grace :)

ETA:  I did have make some headway with my doctor this week!!!  He agreed to put a note in my chart allowing me to labor without any IV access.  The nurse at my pre-admission appointment said that she had never seen that done, but my doctor agreed to it.  Big sigh of relief.

  • Hi girls! I feel like I have missed check in for a few weeks in a row - sorry!!

QOTW: I chose midwives at a birthing center because I felt that they matched with my birthing philiosophy. I felt like getting the birth I wanted with my OB practice would have been a fight every step of the way and I was not getting any answers from them. Also, all the interventions and meds freak me out wayyyy more than a natural childbirth does. I am taking hypnobirthing based on the recs of many of you and my birthing center.

For Fun: Oooh! I have many and am so glad it is fall tv again. Brothers and Sisters & Grey's Anatomy are right at the top!

It's not so much of a choice of which one, as my not wanting drugs....We've been reading the bradley method books, because it talks not only about how to give birth, but also how to relax and let your body do what it needs to.
