Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

BM's after miscarriage? (TMI warning)

I'm hoping you can help and tell me this is normal and I shouldn't worry!

I had a natural m/c on Sunday night and since then I have had some pretty intense gas pains.  It really hurts to try to go #2.  It feels like every down there is extremely sensitive.

I had a BM on Tuesday and it was very black and a dark green (sorry!!) and now today I had another and the first part was black but the rest was light brown and almost like diarrhea. Not too much came out though.

Is anyone else having BM problems after their m/c?  Is this something I should worry about?  Is there something I should take for it?

Re: BM's after miscarriage? (TMI warning)

  • I don't remember the specific colors and orders - but they changed and were odd.  And I had HORRIBLE gas pains and yes, it hurt to go #2.

I took hot baths.  I found by laying on my back in the tub and just rolling over onto my side I would either burp or fart and it would alleviate pressure.  I also found that if I laid on my back and my husband applied very gentle pressure to my sides and stomach I would burp or fart which relieved pressure.  He was very tolerant ;)

I also took fiber pills to make my BM's easier to pass.

This is a LOT of personal info - sorry if you're reading more than you bargained for but I was in a terrible amount of pain too.  I hope you feel better soon.  Drink some ginger ale, use a heating pad on your belly and take a bath!

  • Phew! I googled this and found nothing and got a little scared that there was something wrong with my bowels.

Thanks for the personal info.  I really needed to know that someone else has gone through something like this.

  • I also had horrible gas pains after mine. BM's were uncomfortable too.

  • Thanks for posting this, I felt these symptoms too..I had a natural miscarriage about 2 weeks ago. I had horrible gas pain, it felt like a lot was going to come out (TMI) but it was bascially nothing came out. Finally after a couple weeks it feels like it is somewhat getting back to normal although still some bloating..Hang in there!!!

  • take COLACE (generic ok, just don't get the kind with anything else in it, like a laxative) this softens your stools, does not flush you out. could take a day or two to help, but works very very well.

AM & PM, or just once a day when you get going.

    I would die without colace.

  • I had a lot of pain during BMs for the first week or two after my first m/c.  It was strange, but it went away.  Interestingly, I didn't have it after my second m/c.
  • After L&D at 21 weeks, I had some SERIOUS pains in my anus for almost a week straight. They were awful. If I was sitting when they hit, I shot out of the chair.

I called the doctor and they said to drink lots of water, take a stool softener (I wasn't having any issues going to the bathroom, though) and take pain killers if necessary. I did the water and the painkillers, but didn't bother with the softener since that wasn't my problem. They did go away.

My sister said she had the same issue after giving birth to her full term babies and that they had been told it was her intestines, etc settling back into position. It's soooo effing painful, though!!
