These are the things that MIL says that are just--wrong! She is British-Guyanese, so I know that some of this is just part of her dialect, but some of it just doesn't make any sense. For example, the word is "SANDWICH" not "SANG-wich." Ugh! DH slips up and says it too (although he is American born and really doesn't have these slip ups that often).
She calls the carseat a "chair." It is not a chair. It is a seat. It's a car seat The passenger's seat in the car is not a chair. It's the passenger's seat. The driver's seat is not the "driver's chair." Her car seat is a car seat. It's just not a chair! Sorry...
Finally, instead of saying that DD pooped or made a stink or whatever NORMAL people say, she says "She made." Made what? And it's consistent. "Is she making?" "Did she make?" That is not a term! That is something she made up. It's just annoying.
And you know I will bust a blood vessel if DD picks this "language" up.
Re: <3 MIL, hate her "Wrong-isms"
What is that about? My mom's no better, she refuses to pronounce the words "ancient" and "tavern" correctly. Anxient (like ank-shent) and Tare-vern. No idea why. Oh I almost forgot "Hormones" = "Harmones"
"Ooh, mommy, I'm gonna MAKE one!" LOL - that would crack me up.
I know what you mean; I live in fear of DD picking up her grandma's West Texanisms. No that there's anything wrong with West Texas, it's just, you write with a "pen" not a "pin," and count to "ten" not to "tin" or "ti-yen."
Oh yeah! My niece was born in Philadelphia, but basically learned to talk in Augusta, GA where they live now. Hotel? "Ho-tay-el" Although, it is kinda cute...
I have no idea, but it is super annoying.
