I posted this on 12-24, but I'm not getting much response. Maybe you ladies can help.
I'm going to start potty training next month. I want to do it completely, but currently, DS is still drinking a sippy cup of milk before bed. Our routine is bath, milk w/ cuddles, then bed. It has been like that since he was born. But everything I'm reading says the last thing he drinks needs to be an hour before bed. Soooo....how in the world do I begin to wean him off of his night time feeding? Should I do milk, then bath, then quiet reading in bed before sleep? What if he screams his head off and demands milk? Has anyone else done this?
Re: RP - Getting rid of nighttime milk
#1 - ADORABLE BABY!
#2 - I am not much help. We just stopped giving it to her. I think we kind of changed the time that she was getting it. But that was also before we gave up bottles (all around 11 months) When she switched to a sippy she just had it when ever she wants it - still does. Then again -we aren't potty training either?! But she did wake up with her first dry diaper this morning!!! YAH!!!!!!
I wouldn't even worry about night time potty training yet. Focus on day training first -- which may take awhile -- and then you can take the next step. Especially sinc eyour son is on the very young end for potty training in general. Overnight bladder control will take time.
Even after day training many kids sleep in a pull up well into their 3rd and 4th year -- some longer.
That said, my daughter has about 5 oz of milk in a sippy before bed -- right befor teeth brushing and books so about 30 min before bed. She still sleeps in a pull up (although we will transition soon.) But, she wakes up dry 80% of the time despite the milk. (She wakes up and wakes me for a middle of the night potty maybe once a week or less) I have read that it is not about limiting fluids its about learning to control your bladder. Your body slows down during sleep and that includes the urgency to pee. This, however, gets better with time and age.

We tried skipping the evening sippy of milk. It made for a rough evening. Worse, she would wake up at 3am telling me she was hungry and wouldn't go back to sleep at all unless she ate something or had some milk.
So we went back to milk at bedtime.
She's daytime PTd and wears a diaper for nap and night. She often is dry after naps, but never in the morning. I can live with 2 diapers a day for now. I'd rather wait until she's older to cut off her evening milk.
