I need some advice please. I'm not sure what to do or if I even need to worry. I started back to work yesterday and I'm already having issues with pumping and DD bottle feeding. She always took an occasional bottle with no problems in the past but today at the sitters she barely ate at all and refused to eat a few times. This resulted in sitter thinking the milk was bad (I have no idea if that is the issue) and dumping two whole bags of milk! She only ate about 8oz in 12 hours. Is that normal? I thought she was eating more when I was at home feeding her but I honestly have no idea how much she was getting from me,
On top of that I'm only on day 2 of work and barely had time to pump once. I was able to get 8oz but I'm worried that my supply will drop if I only pump once at work. They way my job is I don't see myself being able to pump more than once a day on a regular basis.
Has anyone else run into similar problems? How did you handle it? I would like to avoid supplementing if I can until she is at least 6 months.
TIA
Re: Back at work and having issues
That sounds very frustrating that the sitter dumped the milk. Did it smell bad? From what I've been told, spoiled milk smells terrible and you can tell. It could be that your DD will need a few days to adjust to the sitter and taking her feedings from a bottle. She will either increase the amount she's drinking or she may start to reverse cycle (nursing at night when she's home with you).
If you're only able to pump once at work, you might need to pump in the evenings and on the weekend to get enough milk to send during the week if you don't want to supplement.
Good luck!
