BF...Working moms... Come in~

I have been back to work for about 4 weeks now... and I am pumping, but I feel as if my supply is diminishing... I don't know what to do. DD was sleeping through the night and I would have plenty of milk in the AM to pump, but she has been waking up at least 2 times and in the mornings- I don't feel like I have much...and it continues like that all day. Somebody please give me some advice... So upset.Sad I don't want to stop nursing. I love that special time with her and she has been doin so well up until now... She is getting by with what I have, but I am so afraid that if something doesn't change- I am going to have to stop.

(FWIW- I have no problem with formula- I just really enjoy nursing and she has been doing so well with it.) Any advice is appriciated~

TIA

  • She might not be STTN because you went back to work so she is reverse cycling.

When my LO eats more during the night or eats right before I leave for work in the morning, I also get less milk during the day.  It all kind of works out though because she is more full from that morning feeding so she doesn't eat as much during the day.  Are you not finding that is true?

You can start adding a nighttime pumping before bed, that gets me extra when I need it.  I also pump once a day on weekends to make sure we have enough during the week.  Otherwise, I just suggest fenugreek and oatmeal.  They have helped me.

  • My supply has dipped once or twice but has rebounded and I'm still doing fine.  I think the key is to make sure you're drinking enough water and eating enough, pumping at least every 3 hours, and making sure your pump is working well.  If you're worried about supply, I would add an extra pumping session at some point during the day and eventually this should signal your body to produce more milk.  Allow LO to feed as often as they want when you're home even if it's more frequent than 3 hr intervals.  It may take a little while to bring your supply back up but it can be done!!  GL!!

  • Whenever I have a day that I pump less than normal, I make sure to pump every two hours for the next couple days and do a couple power pumping sessions to try and bring my supply back up.  Also, try and throw in a couple sessions on the weekends or at night.

DD sleeps through the night but every once in awhile she will wake up at about 5 to eat and then I always pump less in my first 2 sessions of the day than I do if she doesn't eat, but that is to be expected!

Good luck and stick with it.  Hopefully it will get better soon:)
