Starting rice cereal

My DH called the pedi this morning b/c we feel that DS is ready to eat more food...he already eats 32oz of formula a day and he needs more. So we are going to start rice cereal, the pedi only said to give 2 tablespoons but gave no other info about when or anything. What is/was your feeding schedule when you started giving cereal? My DS had been eating 4-8oz bottles per day but since he's been waking up at night again I gave him 4oz extra this morning @6am (He doesn't usually get up until about 8am) tia!

Re: Starting rice cereal

  • my pedi told us to give him 2 tbs in the morning for a week, if he seemed fine, then we should add another 2 tbs in the evening. i found that if we give my little one cereal in the morning, he goes a 7 hour stretch without eating..not good. the pedi still wants him taking his 21 oz of formula per day for bone development. so i skip the morning cereal and just give him 2 tbs mixed with about 3/4 oz formula at night before bed. when he starts eating more, ill add the morning cereal back in. he's just a light eater.  oh
