Desats?

Our baby is now 32 weeks, born at 31 and today he had 5 episodes of desat.  It scares the living daylights out of me and they keep telling me this can happen but I'm terrified.  Does anyone else have experience with this?

Re: Desats?

  • It is normal.  I know that doesn't make it any less scary though.  DS stopped at about 34-35 weeks.  Sometimes it is due to reflux and sometimes it is just because of immaturity.

  • I feel your pain.  My babies were born just under 32 weeks.  One never really desated but the othe one does quite a bit.  She's turned blue in my arms before where I freaked out.  They keep assuring me it's normal and she should be growing out of them within the next week (they are becoming less and less).  Still though, it's my biggest scare with her.

  • They are effing terrifying, but they are also normal. Both of my guys had a lot of desat spells. One outgrew them by the time he was 36 weeks gestation, but the other guy kept having huge desat spells until 39 weeks gestation.

    Ditto!

You'll be surprised one day you'll realize "hey!  LO hasn't had a DSAT in a couple of hours!"

  • my daughter has cld (or bpd). we just went home on oxygen.

hers were cyclical (self correcting.. she'd drop to 88 or so, then pop back up) for the past 6 weeks or so. after about 34 weeks she stopped having the scary ones.
