TTC After a Loss

Is more than 1 missed miscarriage a bad sign?

I will ask my doctor this when I go back but because we had our 3rd miscarriage last week & 2nd d&c, I'm wondering if the fact that we can conceive but the embryo stops growing at some point means that our embryos will always have chromosomal abnormalities.  DH & I are in our later 30s & I'm beginning to realize we may have missed our opportunity. We know that the conception part isn't a problem but if my eggs are just too old it doesn't seem like anything is going to change that, & that we're going to keep having the same outcome...

I'd love to hear from any of you in a similar situation. Thanks!

Me: 42, DH: 43. We are so grateful to have a 2yr old daughter, conceived naturally after 3 miscarriages & no treatments (our Dr. gave us 1 more month to try on our own before advacing to IVF, & we conceived her naturally in January 2010)! Trying since April 2011 without sucess....MD said we were both "fine" & that if it wasn't happening, it was a chromosomal issue. Finally started Follistim 225mcg injections with an Ovidrel trigger November 2012. Bleeding 11 days post Ovidrel on November 25th. Starting the whole lab/Ultrasound/Follistim cycle again on November 27th...

  • well i am 23 and have had 2 missed mc?s. and my old dr. said it was just ?bad luck? and some random chromosomal problem both times but did not think it would happen everytime.

This as well.  My first m/c was a BO, the other two were due to chromosomal problems.  I'm 32 and my OB thinks it's just bad luck, happens.  He's obtimistic that I'll have a healthy pregnancy.  Just wish he could tell me when.

  • I'm sorry for your losses.  I just had my 2nd missed m/c and I'm 29.  I asked for some blood work tests and one came back positive.  OB said if it's positive again in 5 weeks I'll need to have aspirin and injections of heparin throughout my pregnancy.  I can't hurt to ask if they will do the tests, it's just a matter of getting some blood work done.

  • I'm 26, with two also. So far it's just "bad luck."

  • Definitely ask your dr about doing some testing. Three m/c is the magic number it seems - dr's are willing to do all the testing, and insurance companies are generally willing to cover the tests. I've had three, and just found I have a clotting disorder that's been causing my m/c's.

  • I've had 2 missed m/cs as well. I had the testing done after my second m/c and they determined I have 2 clotting disorders.

  • I had 4, then my OB finally decided to refer me to an Infertility dr. Lots of testing later--found to have Asherman's Syndrome & A slight uterine septum! So, of course I wouldn't be able to stay pregnant! Silly OB dr!!

Anyways, I had laparoscopic/hysteroscopic surgery to remove adhesions and fix my septum. Dr. things my uterus is back to "normal" and I'm just waiting for AF to go in for my follow up. I have never been so eager for AF before. lol

After 4 miscarriages, a diagnosis of Asherman's Syndrome, endo & lap surgery to remove partial septum &
massive scar tissues, we have a completed family <3
    Never give up!

  • I've had 2 as well - all of my questions go unanswered - everything looks fine, except that I can't seem to STAY pregnant...

until 3, they say it's just chance. but only 4% of women have 2 mcs in a row, so I guess it's a really unlucky chance. until 3 they usually won't refer you to a specialist, but they should do blood work if you ask for it.

  • Thank you for your responses.  I just dont know if my doctor will automatically do what he's suppsed to or if I'm going to need to push for what needs to be done. I'm at a university hospital in Chicago but it seems like they're so busy all the time & things have already fallen through the cracks of the system.

I'm curious to know about the clotting disorders a few of you mentioned. Is it that your blood is too thin, or too thick?

Thanks so much for responding to my post. I'm trying to keep my emotions under control so DH doesn't worry so much. I'm so grateful to have "the bump" to ask all my  questions & get support!  (I also have posted on miscarriage/pregnancy loss). Thanks!

  • I had two total. One was a chemical pregnancy, and the other was placenta seperation (I was 5 months pregnant when it happened.) The doctor thinks my history of Endometriosis may have a part in dealing with the losses, but mainly believes it's just badluck. I on the otherhand do believe that my Endo is triggering something. I go to an Endo specialist this week, so we shall see.

Don't be afraid to ask for testing. You have to be your own advocate - its really not normal for a woman to have three consecutive m/c's. I tried to push for testing after our second loss, but my ob wasn't really interested. But after this third one, she referred me to a Maternal & Fetal medicine specialist. He ordered labwork that showed I have a clotting disorder. My disorder is where my blood clots too easily. So when I get pg again, I'll have to give myself shots of heparin.

pm me if you want more details on my testing!
