LO super fussy w/ Thrush?

Was your LO super fussy, if they had thrush?

DD has the tiniest rash on her bottom, but I've been having shooting pains in my breast, as well as, sore nipples (which I haven't had since day 3 of breastfeeding).  DD has been screaming towards the middle to end of a nursing session and has had several very fussy periods during the last 24 hours, where nothing seems to soothe her.

Anyway, I was just wondering your LOs were fussy, if they had thrush.  We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow.

TIA!

  • DD didn't seem to notice, but she never had any symptoms when I got it.... sorry no help there.

  • my LO and I both had thrush at about 2 1/2 weeks- I noticed that my nipples would burn so much after he ate and my LC said that was a telltale sign of thrush. My LO didn't have any white patches in his mouth at first but the LC said to make sure the pedi called in a script for him as well--Make sure you get nystatin cream for yourself as well as nystatin liquid for the baby, that way you're both being treated and you won't pass it back and forth. My LO had a perod of 2 days where he was extra fussy, and the nurse told me that was normal with thrush. Also, the nurse at the pedi office said to use A&D cream with each diaper change to help prevent/treat the rash. Hope this helps!
  • DS wasn't fussy but it sure sounds like it.  I know many babies are very cranky with this, especially during feedings.

I would call your pedi, she may have thrush (aka yeast infection).  Let her air out whenever possible.  Lay a diaper under her and have her do tummy time.

Does her mouth have it anywhere?  You'll need Nystatin for your nipples as well.  And wash your bras in hot water.

*ETA:  Make sure you are sterilizing everything that goes in her mouth such as pacifiers and toys.  Rotate pacifiers often.
