Weaning off swaddle

I think we have to stop swaddling since LO always breaks free...or try to get a different type of swaddle.  How do you dress LO when you put him down to bed if you don't swaddle him?  And do you just lay them down without swaddling?  I'm afraid he's going to wake up alot without swaddling or something to hold or cover him.

Re: Weaning off swaddle

  • My DS sleeps in a Onesie with a blanket covering his legs and he sleeps fine. He usually kicks the blanket off through the night.

  • We stopped cold turkey and it went pretty well. He woke up more the first few nights but soon he was back to STTN. We went from the swaddle to cotton footed PJ's. We also give him a light blanket but it always gets kicked off.

  • I use to think the same, but then I have had so many people tell me that babies should be swaddle till about 5 months. PM always finds a way to break free, but some how I manage to find a way to get him not to wiggle out. I got the swaddle that is a fleece, that works the best. I have the thiner one as well but he always manages to break free. Try the fleece and make sure LO's arms are by his sides before wrapping him and when you wrap him make sure it's tight or he will find his way back out! Hope that helps!
  • I dress DS in a long sleeved onesie and then a sleepsack.  When we weaned him from the swaddle I tried the one arm out for a few days and then two arms out a few days.  Then we just stopped it.  I'm not going to lie, it has been harder for us to get him to sleep in his crib without a swaddle.  But he does STTN.  He was just too big for it.  Good luck to you!!!
