I knew it was coming because my fasting numbers are always high. My 2 hour numbers have been great but I haven't been able to get my fasting numbers down so the second doctor I see put me on 10cc of insulin to take before bed. I've been having my husband give me the shot-I can't stand needles...and I was wondering how long it took for your insulin to really show that it was bringing your numbers down. Yesterday my fasting was 89 and today it was 95. They have been in the 100-110's so its a little lower but todays wasn't under my target of 90.
Oh and we found out on Wednesday that we are expecting a little boy!! Its my DH's first boy(he has 3 daughters) and the first boy in my immediate family(I'm one of 4 girls!).
Re: GD: Just put on insulin
I saw a change in my fasting numbers immediately after starting it. I only take it for fasting, too. My numbers only dropped about 5-10 points, but that was enough for me.
And congratulations on your boy!?
My endo started me out on 12 units NPH and increased me 2 units every couple of days until I reached a point where my fastings were consistently under 95. Over a month time period, I went from 12 units to 20 units.
And congrats on your little guy!

it should work right away, from the sounds of it, your dose isn't high enough, your dr will probably increase it at your next visit. They tend to start low with bedtime doses so you don't get hypoglycemic overnight while you're sleeping...
I have the opposite problem as you... my fastings are great but my 2 hrs are high, so I take 20U of NPH in the morning
