Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding...finally at 4 months

I never gave up and finally it's paying off. At four months old DS is finally latching and staying on more than a few seconds. It's amazing. He doesn't take the breast every time but we are slowly building on each day's progress. If you really want to breastfeed and are having issues don't give up.

  • 3 1/2 to 4 months were a big turning point for me too.  Up until that point, we were getting by.  Then something clicked and nursing became very enjoyable -- less about sustenance and more about nurturing my child.  It became much easier physically and much more gratifying emotionally.  I also gotten beyond the "self-doubt phase", and was able to commit to the BFing relationship with more confidence.
  • This post scares me....I only plan to breastfeed for 2.5 months before going back to work.

Why does it scare you?  I'd like to give you some reassurance about BFing, if I can.

  • Congratulations. I thought DS and I took a long time at 6 weeks and every day I considered throwing in the towel. It is wonderful you never gave up.

  • I am so happy to read this. We are having a heck of a time (nipple confusion, due to supplementing at 3 days old) and I wasn't sure that he'd ever take the breast again.

I feel so guilty giving him BM through a bottle, but we keep trying!
