DS was on a waiting list for preschool for over a year yet somehow I never got the message when they called and said a spot opened for him. Errr at you Verizon!
Anyway, my mom stays at home with DS and DD while I work but she'd like to start a homeschool program with him. Does anyone else do this? Know any links for good references/materials/etc?
Re: Anyone do homeschool preschool?
You might post this on the AP board. I think you'll have some luck over there.
I know my son's last school had a curriculum that my sil told me was a homeschool curriculum. I'm trying to remember the name. Let me see if I can get her on the phone.
My pedi (whose wife home schools his elementary school aged kids) recommended visiting the AAP website for guide lines to developmental milestones by age and to focus on working on those:
https://www.aap.org/healthtopics/stages.cfm#early
(scroll down to the early child hood ages 1-4 section for links on developmental milestones to reach by age 2 and then 3-4.
We have a couple of work books but he's not that into them.
They're more into flash cards but honestly most of their learning comes from play and I like it that way.
We're always working on colors, letters, sounds, etc as we explore the world around us. Even at the grocery store.
They're both starting to read and it's more a case of just sitting with me while I'm reading to them and sounding out letters together and putting them together.
I'm not taking it too seriously but they are both learning just fine IMO!
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
It's a self based Christian based curriculum. It's pretty mild for little ones but can get crazy with the whole creationism once they hit the high school age.

Thank you both for the information. I'll have to look into both....
I felt a little bad even asking this question b/c like p had said, a lot is learned through play. We have a very hyper active child (our parents tell us it is just payback) and he really needs to be focused to learn. We do read and that is probably his best form of learning right now, but he's very hands on.....science experiements with finger paints in the bathtub, planting a garden, playing the creek.....those types of things. DH and I were both hands on learners too, so it makes sense for us.
But he also needs the structure.....pedi actually suggest sports at age 2 and preschool with a structure to it would be best for him. He gets plenty of socialization but it's getting him actually doing an art project where the end should look like something that he does better at. He likes to look at pictures and see how the train track should be set up but doesn't like to just make it up as he goes. Again, very much like DH and I.
Anyway, we thought a "slight" homeschool preschool type ciriculum would keep him busy and occupied and interested this winter. So no, it's not going to be a sit down for three hours and learn thing, just something to do in between his going, going, going and give him something else to focus his energy into.
