"Mommy don't leave me here"

This is how my second day of preschool went. Today she was the only child crying. Monday she said she couldn't go because her socks hurt her feet and all of her shoes were too big or too little. Funny the things that she will try.  Hopefully next week is better but she only goes twice a week and Monday is a holiday. Wednesday is show and tell so hopefully that helps me.

  • Aww, I'm sorry it was a rough drop off.  How did she do after the drop off?  Did she stay upset the entire day or does she get over it quickly and then have fun the rest of the day?  Hopefully it'll get easier with time.

  • Her teacher says that she is better after a few minutes and talks about how she likes school once she is home.

  • That's good that once the drop off is over she enjoys the day.  I used to work at a daycare center and also have taught preschool for a year.  The 2nd day is almost always a hard one because the kids now know what's going to happen- i.e. mom and dad are going to be leaving and they will be there for x amount of time.

It sounds though that while drop off is hard on her, she's doing great afterwards and will overcome this.  Maybe tomorrow give her a special "I love you" not or small picture or something she can keep in her pocket and pull out if she's feeling sad.

  • her reasons to you are breaking my heart.  last year matt had a rough first 2 months of his 3 year old program.  all the transitioning was overwhelming.  (his class would go to the gym for pe and go to the pool for swim). by the end of oct. he was getting the hang of it.  (great teachers helped in this) i'm sure and hopeful that your dd will adjust even sooner.
