Breastfeeding

Pregnant and breastfeeding

I just got a BFP yesterday.  Dh and I are so excited.  I just hope that I can continue to BF LO #1 until she's 1 year.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

TY!

Re: Pregnant and breastfeeding

  • Not personally but I have friends who have done it. Both nursed till the third tri and then weaned. I think you might find your supply drops and you will have to watch what you eat and eat the right foods. Make sure you increase your protein intake and water. The LLL book has some great info about nursing while PG. If you don't have a copy your local library probably will.

  • Congrats!!  I am in the same boat, and I planned on nursing until DD turns 1.  However, my supply is tanking and I'm now trying to get her to take a bottle.  I plan on pumping what I can and supplementing with formula, but not only am I running out of milk (and I used to have an oversupply), but it is getting more painful to feed her.  I read that some babies self-wean during the second tri because the milk changes taste.  Good luck!!
  • There have been many posts about this the past week or so! I'm hoping to start a weekly check-in for those who are interested.

Things are still going good here. I had a huge freezer stash so I stopped pumping at work at 8 weeks, which was when I found out I was pregnant. As far as nursing goes, she has to work a bit more to get a let down, but always has been able to get one. We're also working on getting more solids in to her to compensate for any drop in BM.

  • I got pregnant when DD was 18 months old and she nursed 1-2 times a day until she was 22 months.  :-)

  • We're in the same boat.  Some people have problems with supply and flavor, but so far so good for us.  Right now we're still nursing about three times a day.
