2nd Trimester

S/O dog posts recently

Is anyone planning on getting a dog in the near future? So far DH and I are on the plan of getting a dog when LO is 4 or 5.

Until yesterday, when we were walking around and we saw 3 families with strollers (with young babies) and dogs. Now he wants to re-evaluate our "no dog" policy next summer.?

Edit: I should add that getting a dog depends on our financial situation. We were shocked at the total costs for getting our kitten last year, and I know a dog will probably cost us more.?

  • We have three dogs currently, and plan to breed the one next april. I'm sure in the next year or two we will be getting another puppy or keeping one from a litter that we have.

  • We have a chocolate lab that we got before we were even engaged. We weren't thinking about kids at that point but figured labs are good with kids, so that wouldn't be a problem. DD and the dog are such buddies, it's pretty sweet. Dogs are definitely a lot of work, so once you're settled w/ baby you may want to think about getting one- unless DH is going to take on the bulk of the work and then maybe he can look into it sooner. I feel like once guys get it in their heads to get a dog, there's one coming sometime soon :)

  • My DH just purchased a Rottweiler, our LO is 11months and they have become great friends, he loves that puppy.
  • I love dogs. Seriously, my whole family makes fun of me for it! I would get one tomorrow if DH would let me. We got married in October, and it's been the only time I've not had a dog in my entire life. I think waiting until next summer would be a better plan for us. LO will be around 6 months old, and I'll be able to decide if I want to add a dog into the mix! Hopefully I can make DH wait that long! But if not... I'm sure you won't hear me complaining.

  • I have a 2 year old lab that is quite the handful, but I don't regret having in the slightest. However we are going through our 3rd round of training to make sure that we feel comfortable with the dog around our new baby and to make sure that he listens.

Given that not all dogs are as high-energy as labs I would still NEVER get a puppy at this point in our lives. They require so much attention and training that I don't think I would have the time or energy to do at this point in my pregnancy - not to mention the first couple months after my child is born.

    black/gray-

biggest in the bunch... his name is "Thor"

  • I like his name! I honestly think I'm not going to want a dog when next summer rolls around. I think my cat has converted me to a cat person. I love dogs, but cats are so much easier!

  • We currently have a 2 year old mutt. I am a dog person....and I am really excited that my baby will have a dog to grow up with! Brody is wonderful with little kids, and I hope that they will become good buddies. But I agree, dogs can be expensive....my little one has serious allergy issues and his weekly injections I have to give him are very pricey. He is my expensive rescue, but worth every penny. Smile
