Help! 3 year old panic attack?

Is this possible?

I left my DS w/ my brothers yesterday at my dad's house. Usually my dad is there too but he HAS been alone with my brothers before. Anyway, they were playing video games and all of the sudden DS handed the controller to my brother and said "turn it off!!!"

He ran to the bathroom and acted like he was going to be sick. He said he felt "full" and kept doubling over. He went #2 a little bit and it was normal (sorry TMI).

They called me and I came over. My brother is a paramedic so he checked him out real well and everything seemed fine. He rolled around on the grass for a few more minutes and then fell asleep.

After sleeping soundly for over an hour he woke up and was TOTALLY fine. Ate dinner, played etc.

Has anyone ever had this happen with your toddler? It was very strange...

  • Maybe the videogame was too much for him or made him dizzy?  I still get carsick as an adult and watching shaky stuff (ie Blair Witch project) can trigger it.

  • Sounds like he just got a real bad gas? pain and had to go potty.  Since he did go a little bit it was probably not quite "there" yet.  I'm sure rolling around in the grass probably helped move things around a bit so he felt better.  Poor guy.  I know my DS will say he has to go potty but then doesn't go when we get there.  I think he is just feeling the pressure but it's not "there" yet.
  • I though it may have been gas pain too but when he went to the bathroom there seemed to be no relief.

Also, when I got there he seemed freaked out and kept saying "I want to go home, I want to go home".

  • My guess is that it made him very dizzy or car sick, like the PP said. My DH can be very sensitive to certain video games - they really bother him. Seeing as how he's just 3 and they may have been sitting somewhat close to the screen, I could see how he might have been very sensitive to it.

Knowing what I know about panic attacks, there aren't too many feelings I experience that seem to be translated into his actions. I could be wrong though - he is 3, but my point is that it doesn't really sound 100% like a panic attack.

  • Maybe like the other pp said..he was scared by the video game?
