Hi everyone! I just wanted to see if there is anything anyone would HIGHLY recommend putting on the baby registry. My SIL gave us a small list of must haves and stuff we don't need, but I wanted to check with everyone here as well :-) Thanks!!!
So I asked this same question on facebook and I hardly got any responses. One person said a carrier, and another said a bouncer. I can see the reason for both, my god daughter likes to be close to her mother when she is doing everything so the carrier comes in handy. The bouncer or jumper is good for them entertaining themselves.
I highly recommend you purchase a copy of baby bargains and read it before you register. It will guide you in the right direction for what items your should/should not register for and what brands are your best options. Good Luck!

I already registered. I did read the book and also checked out consumer reports. I am really looking for the "what works and what doesn't work" for 2nd timers or if you got information from others as well :-)
I would get Baby Bargains too. Why do you need so many crib sheets? That one I'm confused on. DD is a year and a half and we only have two. I don't think I've ever even used the other sheet.
Depending on how your house is set up - a Pack and Play with the bassinettand changing table. Our nursery is upstairs and we kept this in the living room and it was a lifesaver!
Formula dispenser if you plan to formula feed - we took bottles of water and added the formula when we were on the go
Bottles and a good Bottle Brush - Recommned Munchkin brand, the others just fall apart too fast! - any if you are planning to FF. Otherwise you may want to see how it goes or register for a small pack to have on hand just in case
Car seat - we liked our travel system with infant carrier - I know some people don't need an infant carrier but we both work outside the home and like to go out to eat and shopping so the carrier was great when baby was really little and sleeping!
Onsies and sleepers
Burp cloths - loved the gerber prefold cloth diapers. The ones that are think in the middle!
I found that people like to pick out bibs, reciveing blankets, towels, things like that - sometimes you get the specific thing you registered for sometimes you get something similar. Maybe if you put some of that on your list it at least gets them thinking of things you need. Diaper and wipes are also great to put on there, you never have too many!
Didn't need...
Wipe warmer
bottle warner
boggie wipes
I personally didn't like the swaddler blankets - but some people rave about them.
sleep positioners - they have mixed reviews, I didn't use one
I'm know there are lots more that you need but here are my highlights!
we had some really nice pad things that we could put under the baby and then if he spit up or had an accident we just changed that - worked great till he started moving alot. They have like a plastic backing but a soft top (we also put a reciving blanket on top of it)
bath stuff - tub was nice, def recommend a sling to set baby in (most tubs come with one or you can buy just the sling if you don't think you want the tub. Also put some lotion and soap on there so people think of that.
High chair or booster seat - we got one that reclined and used it for ds to sit with us at the table even before he was eating with us. We have a full size one but kind of wish I have one that fits on a chair to save some room.
Swing or bouncer - DS didn't like our bouncer till he was old enough to "play" 3 or 4 months. Used the swing more right away.
Unlike some pp, I would definitely NOT register for onesies and receiving blankets. I got TONS of those for my showers and ended up returning a lot. Going through DS's NB stuff last week, I found a ton of that stuff we never used b/c we had so much. I think people like to gift that kind of thing. We have about 20 different blankets and didn't register for one.
Things I wish I had registered for is more of the big stuff you'll use at 6 months+up: an exersaucer, jammies for 6,9,12 months, more toddler toys, solid feeding accessories, etc. The baby stuff gets cycled through SO quickly.
We always used two crib sheets at a time. We put one on top of the mattress, then the waterproof mattress cover, and then the other crib sheet. This was so helpful for middle of the night wet sheets. I always thought that having extra crib sheets was handy for washing bedding in general.
We could not live without the bouncy seat. Took a while for DD to get into the swing but that bouncy was a life saver from day one. It meant we could eat meals at the same time. It's what I give at every baby shower regardless if it's been registered for or not, and I tend to be someone who always buys off the registry.
Bouncy seat, swing, car seat, strollers - both a lightweight one for when baby is bigger and a travel system, high chair, booster seat for when baby is bigger, activity play mat (like gymini or something similar), thermometer - rectal (don't bother with the ear one, I still can't get it to work right and my DD is 2.5 years old), bathtub, carrier (baby bjorn, sling, etc. whatever you think you will like best).
Things I would NOT register for: hooded towels (I got a million of these), burp cloths (again got too many), clothes (you will get a ton both at the shower and when baby is born), receiving blankets (maybe put 1 set on the list, b/c you will get a ton), bottles, bottle warmer, wipe warmer.
I would limit the non-essential items you put on the registry (especially if they are inexpensive and you can pick up yourself if you feel you need them) b/c then you have a greater chance of getting the things you really need.

Some more items....
I wrote in blog about what worked for us. It is a short list of "must haves" that I am working on adding to. Hope it helps.
