4 wks - should i pump?

LO will be 4 weeks on Monday. my intention is to start pumping on monday so others can feed her and make sure bottle goes well for her before i return to work next month. i've heard some babies have problem taking breastmilk from the bottle so i want to start the process early. also LC suggested to wait 4 weeks for my supply to build first.

my concern is... latching is not 100% with us and not sure if i should hold of on pumping till latching is 100%. LO forms lipstick with my nipples at each feeding. but on the other hand, i don't think i can continue with the bf pains. it's been a chanllenge since day one.

we're seeing another Lactation nurse tomorrow to see where latching can be corrected.

 what would you do?

  • you could pump and freze and wait to introduce the bottle until your latch is in better shape. but either way id wait to discuss it with your LC tomorrow.

This. Just because you pump, you don't have to give the bottle immediately. Just pump right after you nurse and freeze the excess. I started a freezer stash really early (within the first week after birth) and I'm glad I did. My supply has dropped a bit with DS sleeping through the night and me going back to work, and that stash has saved my butt a few times when I don't get enough milik during the day.
