The 3 y.o. independent streak is too much

Sam insists on doing everything himself.  If I do it, he automatically redoes it.

Examples:

I turn on the light, he turns it off and then turns it back on.

I pull up his pants, he pulls them down to his ankles and then instantly pulls them back up.

I turn on the faucet, well, you get the idea.

Everything is accompanied by, "No, I can do it."

I totally understand its normal and to be honest, it cracks me up.  Sometimes I do something I know he likes to do just to see him undo it and redo it himself.

There's lots of other new things he's doing that I'm not so crazy about, but this one I don't mind.

  • L doesn't want me to do anything for him, unless he is moody and then wants me to do everything for him.  It's either "I can do it myself" or its "Help me, I can't do it!"  I wish he would make up his mind :-)

  • Oh, I know what you mean.  I am usually okay with it unless it's a case where I put the baby down in the middle of nursing just to help her, and then she insist on doing it herself, which takes twice the time, all the while Cohen is screaming in the background.  Not that I have experience with that or anything!  LOL!
  • The only "I can do it" I hate is when I need to get out of the house and she insists on putting on her shoes herself. She is beyond slow.
