I've been MEGA slacking on registering for a birthing class. DH and I decided we wanted to try a Bradley class, but I haven't been able to find one up here (in VA) and I was hoping you might be able to help.

Any ideas on how to find one up here? My hospital offers a birthing class, but it's just a general overview and doesn't really focus on one method over another.

You're not too late, but I would get on it ASAP.  I hope you can find one in your area!  I think you'll really like the classes.  My husband and I really got a lot out of our classes and it brought us even closer together.

I assume you checked the VA state list?

Provisional teachers are simply student teachers that have not taken their final exam yet.  They are still good teachers.

If there really are none in your area, then maybe call one that is close to you.  That teacher might know of a private teacher in your area. 

If you couldn't find a Bradley class, then I would google for Hypnobirthing or Birthing From Within classes.  If you have a local birth center, they usually offer classes even if you are planning on having a hospital birth. 

The hospital classes are not as helpful unless you are planning on getting an epidural.  They mostly teach you how to get along with the hospital's normal procedures rather than giving you a method to work with.  The Lamaze type classes can be so so, depending on the instructor.

Sorry to butt in... but I took hypnobirthing and LOVED it!! It was so inspiring and informative. I learned so much. I was initially looking for bradley as well but couldnt find any in my area at the time. GL

Thanks! I had missed the Provisional Teachers link, so I'm glad you pointed that out. Of both lists, there's only one person that's sort of in my area (about an hour away). She's on the provisional list though, so I just sent her an email to see when she would be holding classes and for a little info.

I have students driving from Miami to my classes in Ft Lauderdale.  I know it's a long ride, especially when pregnant!  But it's really worth the effort.  Preparing for your baby's birth is important. 

 Keep me updated.

Good for you!  That's exciting to hear that you are going for a VBAC next time.  There are a lot of success stories.
