Nutrition and Vitamins

Am I the only one who finds it impossible to eat well right now? 

I started taking vitamins at night to ease nausea and I find that I often forget to take them because I'm so tired by bedtime.  Then I'm afraid about doubling up the next day. 

I'm also sleeping more, which means that I'm eating at strange times...combining breaskfast and lunch, lunch and dinner.  I read all of these recipes for complete nutrition and just have to think I'm being a terrible mom...frosted shredded wheat for bfast, rueben and fries for lunch. 

Ughh- I suck at this pregnancy thing.

  • You definitely don't want to double up on vitamins if you forget one for a day.  Some vitamins are water soluble and you just pee out the extra that your body doesn't need, others are fat soluble and are stored in your body and it's possible to get toxic amounts of them.  Your body absorbs vitamins more easily from your food, the vitamins are just supposed to be a supplement, not a replacement. 

    Shredded wheat is a pretty good breakfast, I think.  Cereals are fortified with iron and other vitamins.  I've been eating a lot of fast food lately too, but you have to eat what you can stomach right now.  The baby is getting what it needs from your body. 

    Try incorporating healthy snacks during the day like fruit, nuts, veggies, etc.  Maybe that'll help you feel better.

  • I have never been a very good eater and that definitely hasn't changed since being pregnant. I hope my prenatal and iron supplements are making up the difference. Fingers crossed!

  • I am right there with you.  All I want to have is fries and anything made from potatoes.  I can even have a bowl of rice by itself and I would be happy.  For some reason all the healthy stuff just doesn't appeal to me.  I use to always have a salad for lunch but everytime I look at lettuce it just looks gross.  I am hoping that the vitamins I'm taking and the milk that I sometimes try to drink is enough.

  • Glad to know I am not the only one having issues with eating right.  I have been feeling terrible about it.  As for the vitamin I also take mine at night I keep them on my nightstand next to my alarm so I see them right before I go to bed and don't forget

  • I can completely understand. I really thought I would eat super healthy and even organic when I was prego but not so much. Carbs, carbs and popicles! I take 2 flinstone vitamins a day since prenatals make me more sick. It seems like the last few days I am coming around but still no taste for anything healthy. Thanks for the post it makes me feel a little less guilty!
