Since we're having two, my in-laws have offered to get us a nurse for a week or so. It's not something that I ever would have done unless they offered it, but it's very nice of them.
no help here, but dh has a very good paternity leave benefit - at least 4 weeks. And we'll keep #1 in his preschool all the way through the birth/early weeks.
I don't think I would actually pay for a doula or nurse, but if it was free...

I think it probably would have been good for me to have a doula visit me after #1 was born. I really needed some help with being a mom and balancing. didn't really need a baby nurse, more someone for me to guide me on BFing, taking care of myself and balancing everything. The 2nd time around, I kept DS in daycare FT for the first two weeks and PT thereafter. That helped tremendously.
Nope, never have. This is why I married my husband, he is an incredible father too! He will be taking about a week off after the birth of our third & I will still be home with 3 under 3 1/2. I thought going from 1 to 2 was so much easier too - even with 2 at home with me. And our first was born with special needs & the most difficult time was the first few weeks.
Not sure I understand why in general one would need a baby nurse.. not trying to be critical.
We thought about it for #1 (I was pretty nervous), but MIL came for a week and really helped out. I actually cried when she said she was going to head back to GA. My own mom was no where near as much help.
We are going to have a doula, but have not decided on the time yet. We really like the idea of someone w/experience to help us, since neither of us has any experience & we don't have family around.
