When to start pumping....

Good morning all ~

I had my son on Thursday, BF is going well. My question is should/ when do you worry about pumping.  I have went through some of the PP, and notice that baby is better at getting milk.

Should I even worry about pumping at this point !  No one at the hospital spoke about pumping and no LC avail until later today.

My LC told me at about 4 weeks.  Then, you can introduce a bottle.  You shouldn't wait any longer.  When you first introduce the bottle, do it about every 3 days while you are continuing to nurse.

I started pumping when DD was exactly a month old.

I have been pumping since the first night in the hospital. It took a good day or two until I started noticing anything of signifigance in the bottle, but the nurse taking care of me (who is also a LC) told me that it will help my milk come in faster if I pump.

I started at about 4 weeks.  Your primary concern right now is getting baby to the breast as much as possible to establish a strong supply.  No way would I have wanted to deal with the pump and cleaning it and storing milk those first few weeks!
