Breastfeeding

For the love of God...Holy Pain...

I feel like I am being tortured with a nerve agent.  Sorry to be so dramatic, but I am discontinuing BF'ing and I feel like the nerves in my breasts are being ripped out.  I am running a fever and have been puking from all of the pain.

The Doc said take Ibuprofen, but I have reached the max dosage for a 24 hr period.  I have never been in this much pain.  What the heck are my boobs doing?  My SILs did not experience pain like this.  Am I the only one who has hurt THIS badly while stopping?  I even weaned myself down.

Re: For the love of God...Holy Pain...

  • hmmm...when I stopped BF DD it didn't hurt at all.  I heard if you wrap them really tightly and put ice packs on them it will help out.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have tried ice and I am bound as tight as I can stand it.  I would really like to be put into a coma until this is over.
  • Be careful of binding them...you could get plugged ducts which can lead to mastitis.  I've heard cabbage leaves are better and to take a sinus medication to help dry you up.
  • Is it possible that you have mastitis or something?  The puking and fever don't sound like normal weaning stuff to me.

I'd call the doctor back - if you've hit the max dose of ibuprofen and are still feeling awful and running a fever, I think you need more help.

  • I see from your reply to another post that you were exclusively pumping. If you just suddenly stopped EPing then you're going to be engorged and sore and probably get clogged ducts and/or mastisis. It is best to slowly wean from pumping. Pump a little to relieve the pressure, but not until the milk stops flowing. Then gradually spread out the time between pumping sessions over the course of a couple weeks. Think of how long it took to build that supply - demand cycle over the past 3 months. You have to wean very slowly.
