despite the situation your dad and I find ourselves in. Quick background. My husband and I used to work for the same autoplex at different dealerships. The state shut down the business for illegal business practices and the owner couldnt find a buyer so we both lost our jobs on the same day. Thankfully DH already found another job.
Yesterday was the day from hell. I went to the medicaid office to get my temp card and was told that based on one pay check DH makes too much money for us to qualify (I'm not working we were always planning for me to be a SAHM after LO arrived). Okay fine whatever.
I also applied to a high risk insurance company that will cover preexisting conditions. They had all my info, didnt see any problems that I wouldnt be covered, coverage should be effective Sept 1. They just need a letter from my previous insurance company with the plan termination date. No problems.
Come to find out that my plan had been terminated on May 31, 2009. Yet my employer took out my part of the insurance premiums in June and my first check out July (yep I didnt get my last two paychecks). The insurance company will only cover pre-exisiting conditions if there has been 90 days or less in lasped coverage. From May 31, 2009 to September 1 is 92 days. So by 2 days I miss being able to get coverage, rather I have it, it just wont cover any materinty care. So its basically useless to me.
So because my ex-employer didnt send in money that had been taken from me I'm screwed yet again. DH doesnt get health insurance until November on his new job and we dont know if they will cover me because of the time I will have gone with out insurance.
I'm out of options. I can't sue my former employer all his business property and personal property is tied up in bankrupcy proceedings and skipped town. I tried calling my old health insurance to see if I can back pay for June coverage just to change my termination date, no luck there. I have no idea what to do next. Thanks for listening ladies.
Re: I promise to take of you LO...(long)
I can't imagine about the insurance. That's just awful what your employer did. Can't you get on your DH's policy? For group coverage it shouldn't matter that you are already pregnant.
For the medicaid, if you are planning on being able to afford staying home anyway, why would you need state aid? I would imagine you would be collecting unemployment.
Most insurance companies don't count pregnancy as a pre existing condition. If you're DH gets Family Insurance in his benefits package, they pretty much have to cover you... that's how I understand it at least!
When DH and I got married, I had to not have anything go wrong for the first 3 months to determine that I had no pre-e conditions, but it clearly stated that pregnancy is not considered a pre-e condition and that all maternity care would be covered, even if I was already pg when my name was added to the policy.. . Hope this is how YH's is!
As far as Medicaid our employer did not pay us for the end of June or July. So we are missing all that money and it's unlikely that we will see that money. Which affected my unemployment insurance. I have no way to prove when I worked and what I'm owed because there is no one on the property anymore. There is security all around it. I and DH have paid into the system, and would just be until LO is delivered. Every individual policy that I called and checked told me that pregnancy was a pre-exsisting condition.
I'm hoping DH's will work out. But that doesnt kick in until November. So Im still short for Sept and Oct. I'm just hoping that my previous insurance company and the high risk one can work something out, its two days that Im off.
