2nd Trimester

Anyone else completely overwhelmed at the thought of registering??

I know I still have a month or two before I have to register but I go back to work next week (I am a teacher) and I wanted to do some research before then but I am extremely overwhelmed.  I have the Baby Bargains book but I still feel like I have no clue what direction to go in for many of the products!!  Anyone else feel the same??  Please tell me I am not alone!

  • I hear ya.  Here's a tip -- go to BRU (or wherever you are registering) relatively soon and just walk around and get the lay of the land.  You can start your registery then (just do the basic paperwork, get log-in info, etc.), but don't have to actually add anything.  Then at your leisure from your home computer you can start adding a few things here and there as you research them.  I plan to go back in to the store in a month or so to add lots more (and things I need to actually look at in person), but at least I will have a good head start on things.  GL!

  • I never really felt overwhelmed, confused perhaps, but my DH's family is big on family and so have been talking about us getting pregnant for almost a year before we actually did, so I just sat down one non-pregnant day at target.com and looked at their baby registry checklist and made a registry that no one could see, it just so happened, two weeks after making said registry, I found out I was pregnant! LOL.
  • I feel a bit overwhelmed -- mostly because I'm not sure of all the little things that you need. My folks and my inlaws are getting the big things, so what else do you register for?
  • I thought the Baby Bargains book was really helpful for most things.  I've also been talking to friends who have recently had babies for ideas and recommendations.  I plan to go to BRU with a list and hopefully that will make it go faster.  Just walking into the store with nothing was totally overwhelming for me.
  • I was slightly overwhelmed until I talked to my SIL. She gave me the great advice to go to babies r us and browse and set up the registry and start with a few things at a time. So, a couple weeks later I have all the "big" items on there since I wanted them to be gender neutral (we don't find out what we're having for a another 3 weeks) and I can add other things here and there online or whatever. So, I'm feeling much better about it now. And I definitely recommend getting a jump start on things before you go back to school!!

  • Yep, overwhelmed here. I'm going to do a lot of registering online so I can pour over baby bargains and consumer reports while I'm doing it. I find going to the store makes the anxiety worse!

  • Yes it freaks me out. So we're only registering for 'fun' or 'necessity' stuff. And no big ticket items. I don't want to even register at all... I may not.

  • Do you have any friends or family members who are new moms that might be able to help you?  I was really stressed out about this last week because my shower invites are going out this week but my friend who has a 6 month old offered to come along with me to register.  We went yesterday and it was so helpful to have her along to say, "We got this but we never used it." or "This was so helpful and I never really would have thought about it."

If not, you can ask one of the staff members at Babies R Us to help you.
