Poll? About Bedding and bumpers?

Ok so I am about to register and feel very overwhelmed lol! So first thing is first are you gonna register for a bed set if the baby really can't use the blanket or quilt ? Also most of the bed sets come with a baby bumper which i thought were unsafe and you should really buy the breathable mesh ones? So confused I want the room to look cute but I also want the baby to be safe and be practical and not spend money on something if I will not use it. Tell me your inputs either way. Thanks!

Re: Poll? About Bedding and bumpers?

  • i'm registered for a whole bed set, but now i'm rethinking it. why won't your LO be able to use the blanket? it seems like the only impractical part of the set is the bumper. it's ok to use them while they're newborns. just take it out when they start rolling over.

  • We registered for sheets and that's it.

I bought a breathable bumper at Marshall's yesterday for $16.99.  I will probably end up making a crib skirt since I can't find one a navy one for a reasonable price.

Quilts are meh to me.  We'll be swaddling or using a sleep sack at first, as loose bedding is a SIDS risk.  After that, we'll just use some of the regular baby blankets we already have.

  • We didn't register for a whole bedding set because A) expensive B) can't use the quilt, and we're undecided about bumpers.

Instead, we bought the matching wall border, valances for the windows, and the rug. We're doing solid bedding. A pretty good, cheaper alternative!?

  • I splurged on more expensive sheets instead of going the whole bed set route.  I don't really like the whole matching thing and we plan to use swaddling at first anyway.  We'll also be using a co-sleeper for the first few months, so we'll get a bumper separately when LO moves into the crib.
  • I got a bed skirt and sheets, its a lot cheaper and if your not going to use the bumper and quilt its a big waste.  I did get a slightly thicker blanket that matches the sheets to put on my glider in case baby and i want to wrap up will I am holding him but not for his crib.

  • My set comes in "crib" or "toddler" so I purchased the toddler bedding and will get the accessories to match. The difference is no bumper and no diaper stacker. I'll be getting a breather bumper in a coordinating color. The toddler set was significantly cheaper than the crib set!

  • We registered for a complete bed set because I loved the style and look. As far as the comforter goes, I'm going to drape it over the crib (without the baby in there of course) or drape it over the rocker. We went with a design that can grow with him into toddler years, which will be the blanket on his toddler bed. I didn't want anything that screamed "newborn."

As far as bumpers go, we are registering for the mesh ones to use when LO is sleeping in the crib. Our bed set came with the bumper so we'll use that for decoration. The LO won't even be in his crib the first few months.

  • I bought regular bumpers and I'm currently looking for a white crib skirt (you have no idea how freaking hard that is to find).  My mom and I are making the quilts for the walls.  Most of it is a waste, you can just get sheets (that's all that's really needed), but I wanted it to be cute and decorated since it won't change for about 3 years.  It's still going to be cheaper this way (2 bumpers were a little less and $60 total, still have to buy the crib skirts, and we're making the quilts, so I don't feel like we're losing too much).
