swine flu vaccine?

how do you ladies feel about this?

I'm a little on the fence about getting it for my DD. I think I might just b/c I have heard that they don't have any medicine to give to little kids that get it but i'm not very sure of that one.

I'm just looking for whatever information you ladies know about the vaccine. DD has an appointment on the 8th for her 15 month check up and i'm sure her doctor will bring it up then but I want to know as much as I can before we go for her appointment.

Re: swine flu vaccine?

  • it's too new and came about too fast.  Something just feels off about it and I can't get a good feeling for it.

  • The swine flu vaccine isn't out yet is it? It's estimated for October last I read.

If it comes out before my baby is born, I'm thinking I'll get it. I guess I'll get it for DD too.

This is how I'm feeling -- I'm not sure I want to be in the test group, you know?

  • I've heard there is a test group in Seattle right now, which is where there was an outbreak.

I know we will not be getting the swine flu vaccine, but will get the regular flu vaccine. I am going to talk about Vitamin D suppliments with my Naturapath next week at my appointment. Apparently there has been some research supporting Vitamin D helps the immune system againt the flu.

  • DS will get the regular flu shot, but not swine flu.  The swine flu "epidemic" is a frigging hoax.  Pardon my bluntness.  Many thousands more die from much more virulent strains of regular influenza every year.  H1N1 is a relatively mild strain of the flu that's getting mega media time because, frankly, it makes people watch the news and buy newspapers, and that means more advertising dollars for MSM (mainstream media).

All strains of influenza are viruses; there are no medications that cure it, for anyone.  There are anti-viral medications that can help you get over the flu faster, or help lessen the effects, but like the common cold, you have to let the flu run its course.

  • I have been looking everything I can up about it and honestly i'm not getting it for my DD and I don't really think SD should get it but that's between DH & BM.

The studies aren't done yet, I can't find any info on what has been happening in the studies jsut that they have been started and honestly the vaccine is scaring me more than the actually flu!

This is the link to the CDC and honestly it just seems like a new type of flu and since we don't get the regular flu shot b/c it always makes everybody super sick all winter and we are better off just getting the flu...

I found some really scary stuff that happened when they tried to make a vaccine for it in the 70s b/c they did that one super fast too!

  • We don't get the regular flu shot and will absolutely skip this one!
  • I am really on the fence about it. We, of course, get the regular flu vaccine every year but the way this one is being rushed is scary.  Especially given what happened last time. But, that said the thought of one of us getting it is equally scary.  Especially since I'm pregnant.  I'll discuss it with my OB and the girls pediatrician and go from there.  For sure we'll get the regular one and we'll decide from there about the swine one too.

I disagree.  I work at a children's hospital and we've had cases (yes here in the states) all summer.  H1N1 is having more of an affect on younger patients than the regular flu generally does - whether that's the under 5's or under 40's "younger."  Who really knows what will happen this flu season, but I think it'd be foolish to ignore.

FWIW, from the CDC this week:"Total influenza hospitalization rates for adults and children are similar to or lower than seasonal influenza hospitalization rates depending on age group. The proportion of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) was low and within the bounds of what is expected in the summer." (From https://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/update.htm -- sorry I can't make it clicky; I'm on a Mac.)

    This.

Also, none of us got the regular flu vax last year and won't be getting it this year.  So, to me, it makes no sense to get the swine flu vax.  I use a shopping cart cover when I take Ben out and if we're somewhere where there are other kids, I antibacterial wipe his hands down when we leave.  DH and I are also very frequent hand washers.  I think all of this combined is why Ben has only been sick twice in 18 months.  And one of those times was a slight cold.

  • I know none of us are getting it! My hubby did some research on it and found out there was an outbreak of it in india WAY back in the day...the "vaccine" they ended up getting killed over 50% of them....Dont get me wrong i know technology and research has come along way since then but i don't wanna chance it!!
  • we are DEFINITLY getting them.  From all of my family and close friends that work in hospitals I have never seen them this worried about flu season coming up.  My Son has CF so that means his immune system is already compromised.  If he were to get H1N1 it would be horrible and potentially deadly for him so we will do everyting that we can to keep him health.  We always said that even though he has CF we would not make him a bubble boy =).  BUT I am not going to say that what the doctors are saying about the next flu season dont worry me.  I will be thinking twice about takeing him to sports events, malls, play groups, etc more then before.

That being said it is a pretty personal chioice and you need to do what is best for your family.
