NBR: recommend your flat iron

I haven't owned one before because I have straight hair but I am thinking about getting one.  I would like to use it to give my hair a little shape and smooth it out when I am dressing up and going out.  I won't be using it too often so I think something in the mid range would be the best.

Which ones do you like and which ones would you avoid?

Re: NBR: recommend your flat iron

  • i absolutely LOVEEEEE my chi flat iron.... i have horribly wavy/curly hair and it works magically!

if your hair isnt too frizzy or curly you can honestly probably get away w/ one from target, walmart, etc.... i used to use a conair (not the cheapest but probably around $50) and it worked on my hair but took forever (thus i bought the chi)

  • This is just me, but if you already have straight hair I would not invest in one of those expensive ones (ie: the CHi).  I would just buy a Conair cheapee one from Target or something.  I have one of the really small, like 1 inch thick ones and I like it because I just use it for little pieces of hair. It also makes it easy to get close to the scalp and straighten bangs if you have them.
  • Sedu - I have crazy curly hair and it makes it like glass.

  • I have used the Babyliss Pro in the past and adored it, but it's a bit more heavy duty- I have super coarse, curly hair, so it was necessary. Now, I have a Paul Mitchell and it's surprisingly awesome. It gets really hot and heats up super fast.
  • I use a Rusk straightener, but I can't remember the exact model.

Make sure you get one with ceramic/ionic plates as they are least damaging to your hair.  You'll also want to make sure to get one that has a variety of temperature settings.

The Chi is a great brand of flat iron and it is one that I lust after. Do NOT buy Zoe brand. It is terrible.

  • I use the iSmooth that I bought through my Stylist.  It was expensive, but I have ridonculously wavy/curly hair and it makes my hair pin straight!! Love it!

  • The Chi is super great and super expensive. I have the knock off version which is the GVP and it works just as great and was waaay cheaper.

  • I have the Paul Mitchell flat iron. I think you can only buy it at Paul Mitchell centered salons. It was expensive, but it works great. And it is warrantied for I think 1-2 years.

  • I have a Chi! Love it and wouldn't even consider anything else! I don't do my hair that often but when I do it makes it so much easier and quicker!!!
  • I have straight hair, and the ceramic conair works fine for me.  I've had mine for almost four years and never had any problems with it.  I do like that it has multiple settings, like someone else mentioned.  Because I have straight hair already, I didn't see the need to get a really expensive one, but my hair is also fine and thin, so that may play a role in it too.

  • I have the Chi. ?I've had it for years. ?Yes it is expensive but it's so worth the money. ?I love it! ?I think I got mine on ebay for a little cheaper than stores.?
  • I have a Chi I use at work (I'm a hairstylist) and a Paul Mitchell I use at home. Both are great, but retail for about $100-125 each. I would get one from your hairstylist or salon store near you. If it's a profesional brand they have good warranties.

  • Don't waste your money on a CHI. They're overrated im my book. My hair is straight/semi-wavy and I got a Conair Ceramic at Target for about $50. It works great.
  • I have super coarse, thick hair and for about nine years I have only used HAI. For my hair this is the only one that gets hot enough, people don't even know I have curly hair unless I say screw it and not flat iron it.

But, like other posts, if you have straight hair and you only need to smooth out areas you shouldn't invest in an iron that's over $50.

    good luck.

  • I have to disagree with the pp who said the CHI is a waste of money.  That is so false.  I wasted money on the cheap version first, and it was so annoying...it took twice as long to iron my hair as it does now with the CHI.  I bought mine for about 100 dollars, but it has lasted years and I've never ha a problem, only great-looking hair!  BTW, I have naturally straight hair and I STILL think it is worth the money.

  • I have naturally straight hair and very thin but I own a flat iron anyways because I love how my hair looks flat ironed straight.  I used to have this one:

    https://www.folica.com/HAI_2_Ceramic_F_d2.html

I bought it 8 years ago and I recently took it to a trip to Argentina but the electricity conventer was not strong enough and it burnt! :(

So now I bought this one:

    https://www.folica.com/HAI_Convertable_d4.html

Its alright its not as good as the other but it does the job.  The other one leaves the hair really straight, silky and with great shine.  The only problem is that its a little bulky thats why I bought the new version of it.

  • I have the t3. ?You can buy it at Nordstrom or Sephora. ?I traded in my CHI for the t3 and it was the smartest thing I have ever done.?
  • my CHI! Not even close to anything else and worth every penny! I straighten my hair everyday and its still super healthy and shiny. I get compliments all the time and I'm always giving credit to my CHI.
  • I agree with the girls who say: CHI!!! Worth it.

  • I have the Babyliss also and I love it. ?I have super curly coarse hair and it is fantastic. ?I ?like that it also has settings that you can change to depending on the hair type.

My sister is a hairdresser and she loves her Chi.?
