Breastfeeding

What does a clogged duct feel like?

I've been very fortunate that I haven't experienced this yet after almost 3 months of EBFing. But after I pumped, I noticed I still have a small lump on the outer side of my right breast. It's not super sore, but is tender to the touch. However, I got my normal amount of milk when I pumped. Does this sound like a clogged duct or something else? And what do I do for it?

  • sounds like a clogged duct.  if it doesn't empty eventually it will get much bigger and painful so pay extra attention to that area the next time you nurse or pump massage that area so it empties.

  • Clogged duct.  Massage it through your next feeding/pump.  In the shower, massage it down toward the nipple.
  • It's a clogged duct.  You'll want to have your baby nurse it out (and massage it while the baby is nursing) and also massage it while you pump.  It will go away within a day or so.

I have gotten a lot of these so far, so I try to do a "breast self-exam" every day to head them off before they get too big.

  • I just had the same problem yesterday. I read on a few websites to try nursing on all fours. It feels kind of ridiculous, but I tried it last night and it got rid of my clogged duct! :-)

Haha.. Thats funny. I am going to try that right now. I have one now and it hurts so much.  I was told to try football hold, but so far no luck with that.  All fours it is!
