frozen bm help

I start work on Monday so I have some questions on preparing bottles using frozen bm.  (I haven't used frozen bm yet) .  I have it saved in the medula storage bags and those 2.5 oz storage containers. The bags range from 3-5 oz each.

The milk needs to be ready for DD to drink by 7am on Monday.

Should I just put it in the fridge and let it slowly defrost?  If so, when should I put it in the fridge so it would be ready by monday?

Once its defrosted COMPLETELY - then its good for 24 hours, right?

Would it be better if I just defrosted it using warm water?  How long would that take?  Atleast then I would know when it is completely defrosted- so I know the 24 hour time frame...

You can tell I am new to this!    thanks!!

Re: frozen bm help

  • It only takes about 5 minutes tops to defrost them before feeding by running hot water over the bag while it's in a cup or a bowl :)
  • Loading the player...
  • I would put the bag in a bowl or something and then put the bowl in water, so if the bag leaks during the thawing process, you won't lose the milk.  But I haven't done this yet, either.  That's just what I was thinking.
  • I defrost in lukewarm water. Like JeffsWife said, it defrosts fast (5-10 min)

And you are correct -- it's 24 hours after completely defrosted.

I prep all his bottles the night before ('cuz sleep is precious to me in the AM) and then just grab his food bag before we leave for daycare.

  • thanks!
