How much to spend on favors for the shower?

My mom and I are majorly disagreeing on this. I think she's trying to spend way too much money. She did this for our wedding too! I wouldn't care, but then she'll complain about it!

How much is appropriate to spend on shower favors per person??

Re: How much to spend on favors for the shower?

  • $1-2 max and I only think it's worth doing that if the favor is edible.  Most keepsake things end up going to waste, in my experience.

  • edible favors are a great idea!

I'm doing a shower for my co-worker and I was trying to figure this out.

I would say $5 max for each.

  • I say edible and as cheap as possible. Its crazy to spend a lot on favors. Order some personalized m&m's that have your name/LO's name on them or your due date.
  • FYI - you can make chocolate in cute shapes really easily too.

Cake shops have tons of molds, usually for $2 or less - or you might find some at Hobby Lobby/craft stores.  Get a bag or two of chocolate pieces ($4 each at Hobby Lobby) and you can melt them in a pyrex bowl in your microwave (low heat)

Fill the mold, pop in freezer for a few minutes, and remove like ice cubes.  Wrap in colored saran wrap.

You can also add a *tiny* bit of mint or other flavor to the chocolate for a twist.

Can you tell -- homemade chocolate favors are now my favorite?

  • I think it depends on how many people you have coming. If there is only like 15-20 people coming, then maybe spend a little more. If you have like 50 people coming, spend less. I have like 40ish people coming and I am buying the favors. They are $2.10 each. Its still going to be kind of expensive, ($90), but I dont mind. You can always do a candy bar. Buy your favorite candies, put them in cute jars, buy bags for guests to fill up and you can watch what you spend that way. Also, if there is left over candy, take it home and eat it, (or give it out for halloween if your shower is before halloween.). I agree that food/candy/cookie gifts are the best!

  • I've never gotten a shower favor so I don't know that they are really necessary but if you are going to do them I'd do something small and edible.
