Sister needs help

Hi ladies...it will be sometime before I'm on this board myself (DD is only 3 months) BUT my sister has a 2-year old and is experiencing some issues with nap time and bed time....
I've told her how great the bump is for advice, but she now has a 2 month old as well now...so she's busy! Anyway..she emailed me about her 2-year old DD and the sleep troubles....please take a read and if anyone has any insight advice, I would really appreciate it and will relay it to my sister....TIA!!! (FYI....She just went back to work about 2 weeks ago and her hubby's mom watches the babies during the day...)

"Each night, for the past week, we would put her to bed and she would start getting hysterical. We didn?t know what was wrong. We kept asking her if she had any boo-boo?s, but she said no. Same with her naps. She hasn?t napped all week, because it?s like torture putting her down. And then when she would wake up, she would be screaming her head off like someone was beating her. A little scary. It was getting to a point to where we thought something may have been wrong with her and were contemplating in taking her to the dr?s. I decided to try something different the last few days and get her up before I go to work. Maybe if there is an anxiety around me going back to work, then by watching me leave, it will help. So far so good. Still no naps, but much happier. Who knows, maybe she?s phasing herself out of naps? Some kids do and some don?t. We?re thinking that it scared her because every time she would go to bed, we wouldn?t be there when she woke up. And when she would go down for her afternoon nap, Grandma would be gone by the time she got up. So as long as she didn?t sleep, we were still there."

Re: Sister needs help

  • Aww thats so sad! But I feel like Im  missing some information....So shes started waking her in the am before she leaves for work so she could see her leave....and know she was there in the morning...OK.....but if her gram is puttin gher to nap and there when she wakes up then ?.....  I woud make sure the nap routine is just like bed (minus baths, etc.) is Gram doing something diff??   Did this prob just start?  She said "for the past week" if its only been a week, it might just be a phase or attention seeking with new baby....

  • Have her talk to her Pedi. Sometimes they have the best advice.

And I could understand freaking out if I woke up and my favorite people in the world were gone.
