Success after IF

What do you think of the girl name

Dorothy?

Dh is determined that if this baby is a girl she will have the name Dorothy.  Whether it be a first name or middle name.

My grandmom that passed away in 2000 was Dorothy and his grandmom that was Dorothy passed away 1 year ago and thats why he wants to use the name.

What do you think? To old fashion?  What names go with Dorothy?

I know we have plenty of time to worry about names but he is just to excited right now.

Re: What do you think of the girl name

  • I like it - w/ the nickname of "Dori". I think that is so cute!

  • I think it is wonderful you are honoring people you both cared about!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • I love using family names as middle names.  Our girl middle name is Jeanne after my grandmother.  I think you should definitely use it and as you get used to it you wont be able to imagine any other name.

  • I love it! it has a lot of meaning to you which is really great. I think there is a shift going on -- a return to more traditional "older" names. I'm really getting tired of some of these silly 2009 names with ridiculous spellings.

  • Hmmm, tough call. I kind line the "old fashioned-ness" to it, but then I can't help but think of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, and old ladies named Dot. Maybe you could use it as a middle name to still honor your grandmother?

  • I have a friend Dorothy who goes by "Dottie." I love the name and I love that nickname for it!
  • I would DEFINITELY use that - how great that you can honor two people with one name! But I'd probably use it as a middle name.
  • It's not a name I've ever thought about, but I really like it a lot! And even better that it has family ties.

There's a Dorothy in the daycare class next to DD's. I've heard her called Dori, but her parents also call her Dodo and the teachers have picked up on that now. It's pretty cute.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • I really like it - for the sentiment and because it's a nice traditional name.  I think it's cute!
  • Thanks ladies.

I am like Dori.  but again I have a long road to go before I worry about names.

  • I like the nn Dori, but I am not so sure about Dorothy.  The meaning behind the name is really sweet so I think that might push me into liking it more.
    Nothing to see here....
  • I love it - it is a classic name.
  • I've always liked the older classic names. Plus it's a wonderful way to honor a family member!

Dori or even Dottie is cute for a nn.

  • I like it better as a middle name.

  • I love Dorothy.  We almost used it as a middle name, after my great-grandmother Dorothy, but decided not to because she already had two namesakes in the family.  But it's a lovely name and not popular at all (which I think is a plus).

You might also consider Theodora.  It's the same root/meaning (gift from god) but just reversed.  Then Teddy is a cute nickname for a girl.

  • I love it.  I know a little girl (about 4 now) who is names Dorothy and the names fits her perfectly.
