2nd Trimester

Painting, staining, and remodeling

I know it's been asked on here before but I've scanned through and can't find it. When is it safe to paint? I meant to ask my OB/GYN when I was there on Wednesday but I spaced out and forgot.

My mom is coming over to help me re-do my bedroom. I want new paint but obviously will hold off until it's safe to do so. Anybody asked their doc about it? If not, I'll just call my dr and see what he says... I thought this would be easier.

I also have a dresser to refinish.

Re: Painting, staining, and remodeling

  • Painting is fine if you're in a well-ventilated area (keep windows open for fresh air flow).  I think I saw something on another website about NOT finishing/staining furniture though--I think those chemicals might be stronger.

  • Painting is ok with proper ventilation but avoid lead (duh) and oil-based paints.

  • Check Dutchboy and Valspar-they both have low tox-emmitting paints that are considered very safe to use when pregnant.  I used that in Sean's room when I painted earlier this pregnancy-its smells really nice compared to regular paint too.
