Trying to recover my supply

My DS decided a month or so ago that he was done with nursing.  Bottles were just easier, and I had a hard time convincing him to nurse for very long unless he was just waking up or going to bed. So I started pumping twice a day and got enough for two bottles, which was all we needed since I could get him to nurse first thing in the morning and at night.  Then he decided that he didn't want to nurse at those times either.  I continued to just pump twice a day, but my supply dropped significantly.  I am now back to pumping four times a day, but am not getting a whole lot.  I might get enough for two bottles, but typically not.

My questions:  can I rebuild my supply this way?  If so, how long will it take to start getting more when I pump?

 Thanks!

  • You need to start pumping more than just four times a day. Your body will respond with milk production if you pump more times during the day.  Maybe start with every three hours - for 10-15 minutes each time.

  • you need to start pumping ASAP every two hours. its a huge pain in the butt, but you need to send a message to your boobs to start working again! remember when your baby was newborn and needed to be fed every two hours? only a little milk came out, but over time you started to produce more... i exclusively pump and this is what i did, and now (baby is 4 months) i have a 5cubic foot freezer FULL of milk. when your supply is well established (you will know) you can go to 3 hours, then maybe pump every four hours. that is what i do, and i get 9-16oz each time. i totally could pump every 5 or 6 hours, but im attached to my milk supply and get sad when it goes down =)
