Can you share the names you almost used but didn't? We're stuck and I'm looking for inspiration and so many of your babies have lovely names. What were your 'runner-up' choices or your wrong-sex choices?
Thanks!
2012 Races:
Mar 24: Great Human Race 5K. April 28: 5K for Fitness
Oliver was my pick for a boy, but I think the name is growing in popularity because while I was pregnant two of my friends' relatives chose that name also.
If we TTC again and get a boy, I am going to throw "Crews" out there. It sounds odd, but I discovered it in my family history when my son had to do a project. The more I sit with it the more I kinda like it (at least for now).
Interesting thing: According to one study, boys with "unconventional" names were much more likely to wind up in juvie ( I think it was something like 70 % of boys in juvie had unconventional names - not sure of the actual numbers). Not sure how to interpret that one. So maybe have to reconsider and name any future DS Michael or David.
I didn't have a runner up for boys. Rocco was it for me from the beginning! If it was a girl we were thinking Lucia, Angela, Elizabeth...those were the top three I think.

I like Rocco, but incidentally, in our group of friends, Rocco is our favorite porn star, too.

If DS was going to be a girl, we had a back-up name for DD that we loved and were going to use: Erin Avery
For DS and boys in general we had a really hard time choosing a name. Names that were on our list or considered at some point were Benjamin, Wyatt, Zachary, Graham, Grant, Will(iam), Sean, Austin, Mason, Max(imillian), Jake, Shane, Alexander. Ended up with Tyler.
We had a short list of pretty traditional names. We went with Emma, but also on the list were Charlotte and Abigail. We waited to decide until she was born b/c we wanted to see what name fit her best. Possible boy names included Henry, Zachary, and Jack.
Honestly, the only name my DH and I had picked for a boy was Aaron Charles because we were naming him after our late grandfathers?my dad's dad was Aaron and DH's mom's dad was Hyman Charles.
If we'd been having a girl, she'd have been named Hannah Madison?after my mom's dad Harold and my dad's mom Martha (and DH's grandfather Hyman and grandmother Marcie).
Other names that *I* liked (not the DH) for a girl were Alexa, Emily and Sophie. In my 20s (before my grandfather died) I liked the names Ryan and Daniel for a boy.

Vanessa was a runner up pick for a girl
Our girls name is Sienna Rose. Runner up was Taylor. If it was to be a boy it would have been Devin,Conner, Aiden or Evan.

Alyssa was our girl name. For boys the list was Riley, Noah, Conner, and Chase.
Matthew was not even on the list but that's the name we chose the day after he was born. We paired it with Conner.
