Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Anyone have a partial molar pregnancy?

I had my first u/s yesterday and I was told that there was a lot of abnormal tissue surrounding the baby. The doctor called it probable partial molar pregnancy.

so now it's just a waiting game until I go back in 2 weeks.

anyone else have a partial molar pregnancy? the doctor also starting talking about cancer risks and what not, but I was so out of it, I didn't really understand what she was saying..

  • I just wanted to say I'm sorry that you had such an upsetting dr. appointment. That must have been scary to hear and then for them to go on about caner risks. I hope in 2 weeks that everything looks normal.

I don't have experience with molar pregnancies exccept I've been told by Drs that it's rare and with u/s equipment they can detect a molar preg early on so you can be treated and go on to have healthy babies in the future.

  • So sorry you are in limbo.  I had a pmp last winter.  Here is a link to a simialr post from last week.

I will say that there have also been several cases of "suspected molar pregnancy" on these boards recently, and in the end they were not.

Again hugs.  The unknown is hard to face.

  • Im so sorry you are going through this.  I hope that when your pathology report comes back it is not.  If it is, myself and many other ladies have been through it and can answer any questions for you.  ((BIG HUGS))  I'll be thinking and praying for you during this difficult time.

  • I had a d&c three weeks ago for a suspected blighted ovum and the results from the tissue was that I had a partial molar pregnancy. It was heartbreaking news but the comforting part was a) a partial molar occurs when two sperm fertilize one egg - so at least we know everything is working and doing their job, and b) the risk for cancer is abou 15%-20% less with a partial molar than a full molar.  From what I've read, the risk is only about 5% with a partial molar pregnancy for developing cancer.  I will definitely keep your situation in my prayers!
