I feel totally shallow, but...

With the third tri in just 4 days all I can think about is the delivery. Obviously I can't stop picturing holding Parker and squeezing his tiny little self for the first time, but then my mind wanders to how much like crap I'm probably going to look after delivery and then I think "OK I need to get my hair done in as cute an updo as possible before heading to the hospital and probably get eyelash extensions put on sometime close to the due date and stock up on water-proof make-up..." I am totally pathetic I know, but I can't help it! Everyone is going to have all these pics of our brand new fam in the delivery room and I will be immortalized as a sweaty smeary mess. Flame away!

That's not a mess, that's a Mommy. This will be my 2nd baby and after seeing the pics from my son's delivery years ago I could've cared less what someone else thought. I was more concerned with my son. If that means that I don't have makeup on, my hair isn't fixed and I'm puffy from several bags of IV fluid then I'm ok with that. Because once the baby gets here everyone will focus on the baby, not Mommy.

LMAO, omg that is funny. You know, I think of the same things but all the moms I know say that it honestly doesn't even cross their mind after they deliver. And they promise no one else even cares, they are so glad you and LO are ok. But secretly, I'd like to ban pics until I can get a good look at myself. For preparation later when someone shows me how I looked...

I wont flame you. I think its cute & funny that ppl do that. My cousin made sure she bought her makeup bag w/ her to the delivery room. She didnt have her hair done so she wore a cute bonnet (i thought she should've worn a scarf) but i only took a pic of the baby after the delivery. (i dont think she wanted her pic taken even though she did look bad at all)

I'm planning to pack waterproof makeup in my hospital bag. Eyelash extensions are a bit extreme but I can understand wanting to fix your hair and makeup before pictures.

I am LMAO at the idea of you stopping and having your hair done in a cute updo when you are contracting every couple of minutes. 

I was happy that I took the time to shower and spent some of the shower crouched on the floor in pain.

I love that you name this... flame me, too... people!  I want to be cute in my pictures and I'm not ashamed to say it!!!  No one can tell you how to feel about something like that.  I think its great that you want to look cute for delivery.

I don't think you will look as bad as you think.  Okay if you are going natural, maybe, but otherwise a few pats with a powder brush and you will be fine.  Just make sure you freshen up right before and right after for pictures.    I think you will find that you don't care quite as much as you do right now.

HA!  I got my eyebrows done the day b/f I was induced b/c I knew that there'd be lots of pix taken.  I also made sure to have cute nighties to wear...

And guess what?  I couldn't have cared less!!!  It's hard to beleive but the minute those babies came out, I didn't care if I had a stitch of make up on or wearing the ugly nightgown from the hospital.

I doubt I'll go to that extent (I don't even wear make-up on a normal day), but I will require some time after the birth to a) breastfeed and b) clean up.  Then when I feel good and ready, I'll let family and friends come in.

I look back at photos from the hospital after I gave birth and I have never looked more beautiful in my life.  No make up, 18 hour labor with 2 1/2 hours of pushing, etc. I want to cry just typing about it - it was the most amazing and beautiful experience.

eta: I thought I would feel like you described - I'm a total hair and make up junkie

Well, I guess it just all depends on individual beauty pratices and the fact that I'm a first-timer. This isn't stuff I don't normally do, but I could see how after the fact the priorities are different once you hold them the first time.

yeah but that's 5 weeks from your actual due date,  that's not an updo that you think is going to last through labor

My brother's fiance wouldn't let anyone come into her room until she had a chance to fix her hair and makeup after her daughter was born. He's been with her for more than 2 years now and I have yet to see her without makeup.... not even on Christmas morning. I plan on doing my hair and makeup before going to the hospital when I'm in labor... hopefully the labor will be quick and it will still be in-tact, but I'm not going to hold off on pics or anything just so it will be done when they happen.

OK first of all when I said "updo" I did not mean the prom kind, something sturdy that will stay and look like I made some sort of effort will suffice, and it will probably be my mom doing it, there is no way I would sit in a stylist chair in the middle of labor. I'm shallow, not stupid! Besides it's the biggest event in my husband and I's life thus far, and I want to feel good all the way around about the whole day.

Ditto this, except this is my third baby.  I take make-up with me, but I don't put it on till after I've showered.  After pushing out a baby, you just don't care.

I don't even do that much, uh, ever.  I can't imagine worrying about that while giving birth.  I feel ugly just reading this.

I totally can see where you're coming from (to an extent). I know there are going to be all these pictures taken of us, and most (if not all) of the focus will be on the baby, but I still want to look decent. I want to have our first picture blown up and framed, and preferably I'd like to look semi-normal and what I normally look like.

I know that people don't expect a mother who has just given birth to look pretty and put-together, but I'd like to at least have some makeup on and look like myself. (I wear makeup whenever I go out of the house - I know this may/will change when my baby is born as I won't have time or a desire.)

I say do whatever you want to prep and if it holds GREAT if it does not...you won't care.  Some people are hair and makeup people and some people just aren't. 

When I had my daughter I labored at home for 12 hours.  But, my labor was pretty easy.  While prepping for the hospital I did my makeup and curled my hair (I had even gotten a Brazilian bikini wax a week before) because I had time waiting until my contrax were 5 min apart. So when the time came to go I was ready to go.

Luckily for me, I checked in the hospital at 8:00 and was ready to push by 10:45 so my birth pics were pretty good and many people commented on the fact I had makeup on and hair done.  I hadn't planned to get gussied up (although I wear some makeup 80% of my waking hours) but was happy that I don't cringe at my birth pics.

I still find this hilarious....Also it isn't a good thing to be shallow....Sooo I wouldn't go around advertising it. I don't think it is shallow to want to look nice in your pictures but your taking this waaay overboard with your updos and eye lash extensions..and isn't getting an updo an updo no matter where your sitting for it??

Getting highlights and getting an up-do are two totally different things.  Highlights will still be there after a delivery.  An up-do stands very little chance.
