I think it's really really really important to give our kids healthy eating habits regardless of genetics and their size as children.
I was a super skinny child. Like super skinny, weighed the same as my brother 2 years younger than me when he was 6 months and I was 2.5. And I was skinny throughout high school and through most of college.
so I ate what I wanted without exercising. without worrying about what I was eating at all. Late night pizza, beer, you name it.
And it really caught up with me - and I am the world's worst eater. I do my best now, but it's hard because I ate crap for so long. I am also really picky and would prefer junk food over about 99% of other options.
It's just something I am hyper aware of b/c of my own experience. I love that Jackson would rather have tomatoes over chips/cheetos. It makes me giddy. I wish I was like that, quite honestly.
Re: Sort of related to the topic of Weight/Food
I never had to think about my weight until college. I was tiny in high school. TINY. So tiny that my BFF's mom would always fuss at me for being too skinny. I get to college, discover beer and frat boys, it all goes to hell. I feel like I finally got back on track after having William. I could stand to lose a pound or ten, but I am comfortable in my skin now. I feel healthy. Yeah, I don't eat perfect all the time, but I do most of the time, and I'm really trying to imprint that on Will.
Holy gratuitous comma usage there.
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
I agree.
I agree with you 100%. I grew up in an old school Italian family, where food was the main focus. I am trying really hard not to make everything about food. And limit the amount of fried, rich food that my children eat.
The dairy intolerance has almost been a blessing b/c it automatically cuts out a lot of the bad foods.
agreed. 100%. I still eat crap, but I wait until the kids are in bed......which isn't good for me.
Audrey knows what foods have protien in them since her doc told her at her 3 year appt that she needs more protien...so she asks "does this green bean have protien? does this egg have protien?" or whatever we are eating and any more she says "this cheese has protien and calcium, mom!"
Taylor knows she has to eat her veggies or else she gets constipated.
Mitch--well, he's my "heathy eater"....as in he eats EVERYTHING.....
my parents weren't whole food people or anything (I've had my share of Ragu) but there wasn't a ton of emphasis on processed food. It Soda was a treat.
Also, the culture of my entire Jewish/Italian neighborhood was to eat homemade food. On Sundays, we ENTIRE street smelled like gravy. Everyone got into crushing tomatoes in the summer. Everyone made their own wine! It was a great influence.
Yeah Dandelion - I want to walk the line too b/c I had friends like that who went crazy once they were able to. Sodas were a treat at our house but we did have some candy/sweets/snack food too.
It was more my mom let me get away with eating like crap b/c I was a stubborn, picky littleshit and I was skinny so she didn't worry about my "health."
