Babysitter/nanny prices?

Ok...consider it a poll.

How much do you pay for a babysitter?

Are they a teen or adult?

How much do you pay your regular nanny?

And...what area of the country do you live in?

Just trying to get a sense of where we should be.

Thanks!

  • I used to have someone that watched my 2 older girls and she charged $10./hr.  She's a childhood friend of my mother and used to run a daycare.  She's a SAHW and doesn't drive, so she loved having the girls.  Then, she hurt her knee and that was that.

I looked into a nanny service and they wanted $18./hr, plus employer SS taxes, plus enrollment in a payroll company to make it all legit.  Then there was the $1,500 fee they charged for placement and background check.  They also wanted a minimum of 20hrs a week.

    I live in NH.

  • How much do you pay for a babysitter? Don't know yet...have always left him with family although I am trying to hire a sitter for Sept 12th.

Are they a teen or adult?

How much do you pay your regular nanny? $550/week plus paid vacations (about 3 weeks vacation since I pay her when we take vacation and over Christmas/Thanksgiving)

And...what area of the country do you live in? Atlanta suburbs

  • I have 2 non-family baby sitters that I use.  One used to be a teacher at my kids daycare and is a college grad who just had a baby in June and decided not to go back to work.  I pay her $10 an hour.  My other sister is the cousin of my BIL and is in college currently for early childhood education.  She is around on weekends only.  I also pay her $10 an hour.  This is for both my kids, 1 1/2  and 3.  I live in MN.  Both my kids are in daycare FT during the week and honestly, MN ranks as one of the highest areas cost wise for daycare - I pay $485 a week for both my kids (toddler program and preoschool program - price includes all food and basically everything other than diapers).

  • Usually I have former students that want to babysit and don't want me to give them any money.  I think they just think it is cool to see him in person.  I will usually give them $5-$10 per hour.

Teens (and it doesn't happen often at all)

My regular babysitter I pay $110 per week.

    I live in the midwest
