Breastfeeding

Alright ladies, what am I doing wrong??

When Ava was first born, she would feed on each side anywhere from 15-20 for about the first month.  Then she went down to about 5-10 minutes each side, so my milk has slowed the production down.  I have been trying to up my production so I can freeze it before going back to work but have not had much luck.  SHe eats every 3-4 hour for about 5 minutes each side now and I wait an hour-two hours and pump for about 15 minutes with only one let-down within the first few minutes but I only get about 1/2 oz per side.  I have been doing this after every feeding for the past few days, except at night she sleeps for 7-8 hours and so do I!

Any suggestions to increase my milk???

  • It doesn't sound like you have a low supply.  It sounds like you have a good supply and your daughter is an efficient eater.

Try pumping right after she eats.  You usually get more milk that way and it'll encourage another letdown.

I'll try that!  Thanks for responding!

  • That would be my advice too, pump right after she feeds.  Also, when you pump, try to massage and adjust the pump settings so you have more than one letdown.  You should have enough milk for at least two, if not more.
